Remember Laurie from 'The Partridge Family'? She's 65 and looks half her age now
Laurie from The Partridge Family is now 65 years old but still doesn’t look a day over 30.
AmoMama shares with you details of Susan Dey’s journey into stardom as a teenager who played Laurie Partridge in The Partridge Family and her current endeavors as reported by Stanton Daily.
It’s hard to forget the ravishing young teenager who played Laurie Partridge in The Partridge Family back in the 1970s but years after Susan Dey’s outstanding performance; her works are forever etched in our memories.
Susan was born on December 10, 1952, in Pekin, Illinois to a nurse mother and a newspaper editor father. Tragically, at the age of eight, Susan lost her mum, but she didn’t allow that determine her fate in life.
She pursued her education and graduated high school in 1970 after which she decided to spend her life as a model, but her life took a mighty turn from that path. Dey took a risky decision when she went to audition at the age of 17 with no prior knowledge of acting for ABC’s television series ‘The Partridge Family.’ The sitcom starred Shirley Jones as a widowed mother raising five children. Susan wowed the world with her stunning performance making her on-screen mother gush over her great talent.
In an interview years after The Partridge Family, Shirley described Susan’s talent saying,
‘She was wonderful. She developed so beautifully as an actress. Here’s a young model from New York.. who never acted before. She was a natural.’
With her role as Laurie being her first exposure to Hollywood, Susan immediately had a thing for David Cassidy despite leaving with the show’s story editor Dale McRaven. Sadly, Cassidy never saw her as more than a sister turned friend.
Overcoming her crush on Cassidy, Dey made her film debut in 1972 as a passenger in Skyjacked. After The Partridge Family ended, Susan landed other minor roles in several television shows including S.W.A.T, Hawaii Five-O amongst others.
She soon landed another major break as Grace Van Owen, a California assistant district attorney who later became a judge in the series L.A Law. Susan performed outstandingly earning several Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominations for her performance, but she made a big win in 1988 for Best Actress at the Golden Globes.
Dey went on to star in several other television projects before her final on-screen appearance as Dr. Breene on Third Watch before calling it quits from Hollywood.
With all her achievements in the movie world, it seems Susan doesn’t want anything to do with that life as she’s managed to live her life away from her famous shadow. She currently serves on the board of the UCLA Medical Center’s Rape Treatment Center.
She’s been happily married for 29 years to Bernard Sofronski.
