Mother dead and daughter clinging to life after funfair ride accident
A woman passed away and her daughter was left seriously injured and fighting for her life after the two fell down from a funfair ride at the annual local fair in Pénjamo, State of Guanajuato, Mexico.
The now deceased woman and her daughter were upside down in the air when the fun ride seat’s safety bar failed, letting them both fall down from the 33 feet contraption in front of dozens of witnesses, according to AM.
The terrible incident happened close to 9:30 p.m. on May 8. Private paramedics working for the fair attended to the victims and declared the 50-year-old mother Irma Sánchez Albarrán dead.The 26-year-old daughter Nayeli Morales Sánchez was taken to the hospital, where she remains in a very delicate condition.
Shocking cell phone footage captured the moment the mother and daughter Irma dropped from the top of the ride while the crowd screamed in terror. The tragedy took place just three days after the annual fair opened.
While the daughter is still in intensive care the mother’s body was taken to Irapuato to undergo an autopsy, and on May 10 she was buried at the local Municipal Pantheon.
Relatives of Sánchez Albarrán say their goodbyes to the woman between applauses, prayers, and tears, honoring with a religious service in the presence of the body.
A very affected Misael Morales Sánchez, the youngest son of Sánchez Albarrán, gave a short speech demanding justice to be made for what happened to his mother and sister.
‘I want to thank everyone who is here for the time you have spent supporting us, and I hope that you are still here later because we are going to need you,’ Morales said.
He also asked everybody to keep praying for his sister, whose condition is still critical as she is under medical observation at the Celaya Hospital.
An ongoing investigation is trying to determine if this accident could have been avoided and who should be held responsible for the damages.
