'Entertaiment Tonight': 'DWTS' second place revealed
Adam Rippon, the famous figure skater, won the first edition of Dancing With The Stars: Athletes, but ABC finally revealed who came in second.
During the final, which took place on Monday, May 21, 2018, the Mirrorball trophy was given to Rippon and his partner, Jenna Johnson, but the show never announced who the runner-ups were.
According to Entertainment Tonight, a BBC spokesperson, the studio responsible for producing Dancing With The Stars, revealed that Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess came in second place.
The same source, which is yet to be identified, claimed that the second and third places weren't announced during the live show due to time constraints.
The results were obtained through the combination of the judges' scores and the votes of the people in America, but they weren't made public until now.
This was a break in the show's tradition; fans had grown accustomed to being told which pair of dancers took second and third place, but not hearing it this time left people wondering.
Winning the Mirrorball trophy was a great achievement for both Rippon and Johnson, and the occasion was even more special for the 24-year-old dancer because she managed to win it on her second season of the show.
The pair achieved a perfect score of 30 out of 30, as well as a standing ovation from the audience, for their jazz routine, but their performance of Pitbull and DJ Kass' Scooby Doo Pa Pa wasn't as praised.
Still, they compensated with their freestyle routine, which earned them a score of 28 out of 30, just enough to surpass both Norman and Harding, who garnered 30 out of 30.
Right before the start of the competition, which was shorter than its other versions, the set of Dancing With The Stars was renovated, adding a new screen, which could split open, and a jumbotron to the main stage.
