Patrick had an abrupt exit during her final Indianapolis 500 after the crash that occurred on lap 68.

The car spun out as she went ahead into turn 2. The car ended up spinning backward and its left side eventually smashed onto the outside wall.

The results of the crash revealed a blown out left-rear tire and a totaled left-front wheel. After pulling off the track, she collided with the inside barrier.

A Twitter video posted by Clark Wade showed the damages of Patrick’s vehicle.

Prior to the race, Patrick posted an emotional message on her Instagram confessing she was sad that it was going to be the last race of her life.

The Indianapolis 500, held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was supposedly Patrick’s final race in the entirety of her career.

Patrick was qualified in 7th place for the race, which was supposedly setting her in a good start position.

Unfortunately, too much damage had been done to her vehicle during the crash that Patrick was forced to end her racing career on a sad chapter.

Still, her supporters cheered her on and showered her with applause following the crash.

Her last Indy car race was in 2011 as she had been racing in NASCAR for the years that followed.

Just last year, 2017, she retired from NASCAR at the end of the season.

Patrick is still yet to speak out about the crash. Some of her colleagues took to Twitter to offer their kind words for the racer.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. tweeted that he had been watching Patrick since her racing days in the Atlantic Championship series. He said that it had been ‘lots of fun to follow her whole career.’
