Jennifer Lopez has been the subject of many controversies due to her signature daring fashion style, but recently she surprised her thousands of fans appearing in much classic and formal attire for Emmy Magazine.
When the 48-year-old actress and singer shared an image from her photo shoot for the cover of June’s edition of the magazine, many remembered the criticism famous designer Carolina Herrera gave her three years ago.
Lopez has always stood out for her beauty as much as for her many talents, and she has developed a sense of style that lets her show as much as she can of her enviable figure defying the standards of elegance and luxury.
As Soy Carmín reported, this has sometimes put the star in the eye of the storm as more conservative personages from the fashion world who believe in a more traditional concept of style such as Herrera.
In 2015, the 79-year-old Venezuelan, considered one of the world’s most important fashion designers, complained in an interview for Washington Post about the contemporary celebrities fondness for transparencies and revealing clothing
‘They’re supposed to be fashion icons and they’re not wearing anything,’ Herrera said, disappointed by what she considers a lack of imagination from the designers that are dressing the likes of Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and 'J-Lo'.
That is why when Lopez shared her atypical look for the magazine cover, refraining from see-through fabrics and tight body suits and sporting a classic glamorous ensemble, many wondered if she was listening to Herrera’s advice.
‘They think it’s going to attract younger people if they do those dresses. No! They are almost naked! Oh God! They’re trying to get people to pay attention to them. In life, there should be a little mystery,’ said Herrera back then.
Lopez will be 49 in July, and she shared with Emmy Magazine that she was holding to her youthful looks as long as she could but was prepared to get old without losing any of her charms.
She has proven that she can still be a fashion icon even if she tries something more traditional than the style she is famous for. Read more on our Twitter account @amomama_usa
