Oprah stuns in bright yellow blouse and green breeches in recent photo
Oprah Winfrey may be at her sixties, but the media mogul is looking better than ever as proved by a recent photo shared on her magazine’s Instagram. She just became the first-ever African American female entrepreneur to enter the list of the 500 richest people in the world.
The 64-years-old star looks stunning in a photo shared on Oprah Magazine’s Instagram account. Wearing a yellow blouse with olive green pants and posing barefoot seating on a bench in front of the ocean, Oprah gave fans a relaxed smile to start the summer with a great attitude.
Winfrey was raised by an unmarried mother in rural Mississippi, grew up in poverty and was sexually abused by several male relatives and friends of her mom, Vernita, through her childhood. At age 14, she moved to Nashville to live with her father, Vernon, and after winning an oratory contest at East Nashville High School, she won a scholarship to Tennessee State University.
There, Oprah started to work at local radio and television broadcasting networks and took a risk by dropping of college in 1976 in order to move to Baltimore to accept a co-anchor position at WJZ-TV’s six o'clock news. Later, she joined Richard Sher as co-host of WJZ's talk show “People Are Talking.”
The show was a success, and she stayed in it for eight years, until she moved to Chicago to host her own morning show, “A.M. Chicago.” In a few months, Oprah took the show from the last spot in ratings to the first one, earning her the recognition of the general public across the country and a role in Steven Spielberg's film “The Color Purple.”
In 1986, she launched “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” the highest-rated talk show in television history. With time, Oprah began to create her now gigantic media empire. She earned the rights of the show and started her own production company, Harpo Productions.
These days, Winfrey has acting credits on several high-profile films, has her own magazine, partnered with Discovery Communications to launch her own cable channel, OWN, and a private charity, the Family for Better Lives foundation.
Thanks to her hard work in the last four decades, Oprah has become one of the biggest influential figures in the entertainment industry, and her business adventures made her the richest African American of the 20th century, according to Forbes.
She just entered the list of the 500 richest people in the world, according to Bloomberg, with a net worth of $4.02 billion. Winfrey sits at the position No. 489, and the boost on her fortune comes from her investment in Weight Watchers.
There’s no doubt of Oprah’s power in the entertainment industry, and since she keeps on working relentlessly, she’ll probably keep climbing positions on that list.
