Opening up about her hairstyles while at a BeautyCon panel in Los Angeles, Kardashian West claimed her five-year-old daughter, North West, is the main inspiration of her hairdos. She said it comes from a “real place of love.”

The reality star was invited as a keynote speaker at the event, where she had the chance to speak up about the controversy being pressed on her by cultural critics.

Kardashian West said she has her “fair share of backlash” since she started wearing braids.

"I’ve been fortunate to be able to travel around the world and see so many different cultures that have so many different beauty trends," she said.

The 37-year-old KKW Beauty CEO shared that her daughter loves braids and often helps her pick out a look by showing her pictures.

She clarified, “I just think if it comes from a place of love and you’re using it as cultural inspiration, then I think it is okay."

In January, Kardashian West debuted her braided locks featuring a blonde hair color on her Snapchat. She called them “Bo Derek braids.”

Social media users and cultural critics were quick to attack the reality star for the term she used and suggested that Kardashian West was insensitive to the African and African-American hairstyles.

Amid the criticisms, many of Kardashian West’s supporters defended her. In fact, even Bo Derek took to Twitter to show her support for the reality star.

At the BeautyCon Festival, which is an event dedicated for brands and beauty lovers, Kardashian West brought her daughter, North, with her.

At the panel, she was seated alongside big names in the beauty world like her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, Lady Gaga’s makeup artist, Sarah Nicole Tanno, and famous wig artist, Tokyo Stylez, who worked with Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Kylie Jenner.
