New details released about 22-year-old police officer's senseless killing
Davis Police have revealed details on Officer Natalie Corona's tragic death.
On January 11, 2019, a young Davis Police Officer was killed in the line of duty.
The death of 22-year-old Natalie Corona has shocked the nation, and now Police have revealed the details of the incident surrounding her death.
RESPONDING TO A MULTI-CAR COLLISION
Corona was responding to a call reporting a multi-car collision when the suspect rode up to her on a bike and opened fire on the unsuspecting officer in what Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel describes as an ambush.
The suspect opened fire and hit Corona once, then continued shooting her until he had emptied his magazine into the young officer.
Authorities have announced that a candlelight vigil will be held on January 19 in Davis in honor of Officer Natalie Corona.
OTHER RESPONDERS WERE SHOT AT
Once Corona was down, the suspect turned his attention to other responders at the accident site and began shooting at the firetrucks. One firefighter was shot in the boot, and a bystander was saved from injury when his backpack stopped a bullet.
GUNMAN FLED FROM THE SCENE
The gunman, later identified as Kevin Douglas Limbaugh, 48, fled the scene and took refuge in his home. The Police tracked him down due to a backpack he had dropped at the scene and surrounded his residence. The officers heard a gunshot and sent in a robot to investigate.
KILLER COMMITTED SUICIDE
Limbaugh was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The killer left a letter for the police in which he accused the department of attacking him with "ultrasonic waves."

ANOTHER OFFICER SHOT IN THE LINE OF DUTY
An off-duty Louisiana police officer was shot dead before the start of her shift on January 9, 2019.
Officer Chateri Payne of the Shreveport Police died after being shot four times, including once in the head while on her way to work.
Payne was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Shreveport Police Department announced that they had detained a suspect for questioning, in connection to Payne's death, but the case is still under investigation.
