Along with an old image that showed Eugene smiling at the camera, the singer-songwriter and actress wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to my late Granddaddy, Eugene Scookie Hud !”
Jennifer noted that she is among the youngest of twenty-six children. However, she and her siblings — her sister, Julia, and brother, Jason — were single-handedly raised by their mother.
In addition to giving the post thousands of likes, Jennifer’s followers took to the comment section to state that her grandfather looked like somebody that could be “fun.” Biography recalled that Jennifer came into the spotlight after she auditioned and landed on the 2004 edition of “American Idol.”
Later in 2006, she appeared as Effie White — a Motown-era singer — in “Dreamgirls,” which earned her an Oscar and a Golden Globe. She followed that movie up with appearances in “The Three Stooges,” “Smash,” and “Black Nativity.”
For every bit of success that she has enjoyed, Jennifer has credited her faith and family for their support. During an interview with Guideposts, the 38-year-old said:
“Now I understand, and it’s why I feel so blessed—that God, out of all the things he does, took time to touch me, to give me a gift.”
The singer-songwriter recently shocked many people when she revealed that she comes from a large brood. According to Madame Noire, Jennifer noted that she is among the youngest of twenty-six children. However, she and her siblings — her sister, Julia, and brother, Jason — were single-handedly raised by their mother, Darnell Donnerson.
Sadly, a tragedy struck in 2008 when Jennifer’s mother, her brother, and her nephew Julian King, were murdered by her estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour. Daily Mail recapped that both Jennifer’s mother and 29-year-old brother were fatally shot in Chicago, which is the star’s hometown.
Even though her seven-year-old nephew was initially reported as missing from home, his body was later found with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident caused the “Hairspray Live!” star to take a break from the limelight, and it wasn’t until 2012 that she addressed the pain the event caused her.
During a conversation with Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer said that she has forgiven William for killing her family members.
