The footage would have been the first nude scene by a Hollywood actress in a feature film, as reported by Daily Mail.

It was thought that the footage was destroyed after being cut from the movie.

However, in a recent interview with Curtice Taylor, son of the film’s producer Frank Taylor, he revealed that he had kept the footage in a locked cabinet since his father’s death in 1999.

Taylor opened up to Charles Casillo during the author's research for his book, Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon.

In the long-lost scene, Monroe dropped the bed-sheet and exposed her body to Clark Gable, who was often referred to as "The King of Hollywood."

John Huston, the director of The Misfits, didn’t feel that it added to the story, but the producer retained a copy for himself.

"A lot of times, unused takes were destroyed. But Frank Taylor believed that it was so important and so ground-breaking that he saved it," Taylor said.

According to him, it has not yet been decided what will happen to the footage.

The Misfits, which was written by Death of a Salesman playwright and Monroe’s then-husband, Arthur Miller, told the story of three cowboys trying to win the heart of a beautiful woman.

Twelve days after filming wrapped, Gable passed away, and it turned out to be Monroe's last movie as well. The legendary actress died on August 5, 1962.

She was only 36 years old when she was found dead at her Brentwood home by her psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Greenson.

Monroe's death sent shock-waves across the globe. Millions of people mourned her untimely demise.

The story of her death landed in the front pages of newspapers in the United States and Europe.

It was believed that she committed suicide after empty medicine bottles were found next to her bed.

A toxicology test conducted to find out what caused her death revealed that she died from acute barbiturate poisoning.
