Son hugs mother for the first time after she wakes up from horror-crash coma
For this mother and her son this was a very emotional moment. They were reunited after days of being apart and days of uncertainty.
A 25-year-old mother woke up from a coma to be reunited with her young son who greeted her with hugs and kisses. The very emotional scene took place in Ireland at the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
The young mother identified as Rachel Elliot was placed in a medically induced coma following surgery after last month’s horrific crash.
Her sister, Donna seized the opportunity to take a number of photographs when she awoke and described the touching reunion between Rachel and her son, Ronnie.
“Mother and son time. To say the least they were very happy to be reunited. Very emotional day...We love u”

Rachel Elliot was one of three people who sustained injuries in an early morning accident on August 19 that claimed the lives of two 20-year-old men who have been identified as Shiva Devine and Conall McAleer. Her injuries she received were life-changing injuries to her brain, pelvis and back that resulted from her being thrown from a Peugeot 306 that slammed into a wall and a lamppost in Bundoran.
Donna had described the days following her Rachel’s surgery as “living a nightmare”.
“It's heart-wrenching seeing her there and you can't do anything.”

She had also spoken of the impact the situation had on Rachel’s son, Ronnie. At present Rachel continues to show signs of improvement.
“Ronnie needs her, when you look at him you see her. He misses his mummy terribly, we all do.”

Hundreds of mourners turned out to say their final goodbyes to Devine and McAleer who were laid to rest in separate ceremonies.
The two others that were injured in the accident were also reported as being seriously injured.
