Dancers' steamy performance turns into romantic proposal in viral video
A performing couple surprises their audience with a proposal in the middle of their dance routine. The future wife's shocked reaction captured on video was priceless.
Phil Wright and Ashley Liai were in the middle of their performance of a sensual dance routine when Phil surprised Ashley with a marriage proposal. In the video that has now gone viral, the couple’s chemistry is undeniable as well as the shock that went through Ashley when her boyfriend stopped and got down on one knee.
Ashley explained that she never imagined Wright would propose to her that day though it was their 8th year anniversary because she always thought he was waiting for their 10th year. But Phil knew he was ready approaching eight years so he devised the plan two weeks earlier and even orchestrated the special co-choreographed dance number to represent their love story.
Around 130 people witnessed their romantic engagement at the Millenium Dance Complex in Los Angeles. Most of them were Phil’s students and only knew about the anniversary but not the planned proposal. Phil chose John Legend’s song “You & I” for their dance number because he said it spoke strongly about their relationship.
The couple first impressed their audience with their dance routine, a sensual display of their chemistry and harmony. In the middle of the whole thing, Phil took out the ring he kept in his pocket and got on one knee surprising Ashley who had just turned around and witnessed the moment. Her shocked expression was priceless but so was her engagement that now goes down in history as one of the most viewed “dance engagements.”
As Phil asks her to marry him amid the deafening cheers of the crowd surrounding them, Ashley answered with an emphatic yes before she cried happy tears and hugged her future husband.
In 2016, another couple made news after the man surprised his girlfriend with a proposal and shocked her, even more, when he married her six hours later.
Sherrell Duncan had no idea that while her boyfriend Alfred Duncan was asking her to marry him, their wedding was already waiting to be held that same day. The moment she said yes to his proposal, she was whisked away to the hotel where her friends and loved ones were waiting to help her get ready for the ceremony. She was made to wear a blindfold until she arrived at the venue where she was blown away right before saying “I do.”
Meanwhile, two women were doubly surprised when they realized they were proposing to each other on the same day and at the same moment. Jesse Gillaspie and Becky McCabe were two years into their relationship and posing in front of an aquarium in Memphis Zoo when they discovered they both planned on proposing to the other at the exact same time. As Becky grabs a ring and kneels down in front of her, Jessa pulls out a ring from her bag revealing she was also planning to do the same. It’s safe to say there was no resounding “yes” needed to end the proposal but the video capturing the moment earned a resounding nod from its more than 2 million views.
