It all started one evening when a homeless man walked into the restaurant where Matthew was working and asked if there was anything he could buy himself to eat with 50 cents, which was all the money he had.

Matthew knew that this desperate man wasn’t going to calm his hunger for that little amount of money, and he couldn’t accept this, so he decided to make a difference in this man’s life at least for a day.

The teenager, as his mom wrote, asked the man what he would want to order if he could pay for anything in the menu, but the man said that anything that relieved him from his painful hunger was going to be the best for him.

Matthew then used his own debit card to buy this man a wholesome and substantial meal. He handed the receipt to the homeless man and told him to just sit and wait for his food without a worry.

“So proud to be his mom and I can pat myself on the back knowing that I've played a part in raising this big-hearted young man.”

As Resendez wrote, if the story would have ended there, it would have already been a happy ending, but there was still something about to happen to Matthew on that eventful day, as a woman who witnessed what he did want to reward him.

“Not only did she write the company to let them know about the caring employee they had working for them, but she also rewarded my son with a very generous tip!” wrote Matthew’s mother.

Resendez post went on to receive more than 160.000 reactions and was shared more than 40.000 times. Many users took to the comments section to congratulate her and her son for Matthew’s altruistic spirit.

“So nice, and so kind of him. You raised a beautiful person, we need more men like him in our world. You are blessed,” wrote Janie Mora.

“That’s a really good man you have there. Keep up the work, son. God will reward you in [a] way you never thought could happen. God bless you,” wrote.

There is so much inequality in the world, and some people struggle much more than others for a number of complex reasons.

Even if it is not in our hands as individuals to change the way the world is, we are sometimes put in situations on which we can make a difference, however small, and that is when we can show our humanity.

This is exactly what Steffen Berr did when he went to a restaurant with some friends to have a good time but couldn’t help but notice a server who worked there going to an exhausting day.

The server, named David Fabila, had come from his other job and he wasn’t feeling well, and Berr was sensitive enough to sense that this workingman needed a break.

Berr saw his opportunity to help and he surprised Fabila when he tipped him with the exact amount of money he and his friends had spent on food. It was almost $200.

"I'm in a position where I have the resources and luck to do this so why not just go for it, I'm really glad I did it he really needed that money more than I did,” Berr said.
