Mother loses 90 pounds after son enquires whether she is pregnant
A mother from British Columbia decided to lose weight after her son told her that she looked pregnant.
Kirsten Pridham has a son with Asperger’s syndrome. One day, he made a comment telling his mother that she looked like she was expecting a baby.
Speaking with Today, Pridham, 35, recalled, “He said ‘Mom, you look pregnant’ and tapped me on the belly. It hurt but (he) wasn’t wrong.”
Pridham noted that her son’s comment was one of the many things that completely pushed her to lose weight. At the time, she was 243 pounds.

In 2012, Pridham opened her own bakery. It was at that time that she began gaining weight caused by stress eating. She was feeling the pressure of having a new business and dealing with her son’s condition was taking a toll on her as well.
Soon enough, her health was put at risk despite being in her early 30’s.
She said, “I ended up having a mess of health problems: kidney stones, plantar fasciitis and general health problems. I just wasn’t feeling well.”
Later on, she saw a picture of herself during her brother’s wedding where she saw how overweight she looked.
“That sent me on a spiral. I had enough of feeling sick and tired all the time so I decided to try again to lose weight,” revealed Pridham.
Finally, she let go of her unhealthy habits by April 2017 and started tracking what she was eating. She recalled how she felt much better after she stooped emotional eating.
The journey was hard. She remembered struggling with sugar since it’s very addictive, but she said seeing the numbers on the scale dropping motivated her to keep going.
Besides having a balanced diet, Pridham also started walking and hiking. Her original plan was to lose 100 pounds, but eventually, her goals changed.
She explained, “I realized what I wanted was to be happy and strong as opposed to wearing cute clothes. I was building muscle and being strong and do 30 pushups not on my knees.”
Since her journey began a year ago, she has lost 90 pounds. Even though she is still ten pounds away from her goal, Pridham said she was already happy with how she looks and feels at 153 pounds.
“I haven’t weighed myself in two months. My clothes still fit the same and the muscles are there,” she said.
Meanwhile, an obese man lost a total of 350 pounds in a year and a half so he could live longer to see his son grow up.
With his unhealthy eating habits and his vices, it was not surprising that man was hospitalized in 2013. Realizing how his health was going downhill, he decided to step up and undergo gastric surgery.
