Man uses $25 million yacht to bring supplies for wildfire victims
On Monday, a billionaire enlisted the help of his friend to put out a call on Facebook for volunteers. The people would be volunteering to help bring supplies to California wildfire victims.
The group was going to travel with the billionaire’s $25 million yacht to bring the supplies. Many people joined and the outcome was incredible, to say the least!
Howard Leight is a billionaire co-owner of the Malibu Rocky Oaks winery. At the beginning of this week, he reached out to his friend Bill Kerbox hoping they two could come up with a plan to help those affected by the wildfires.
They planned to use Leight's 142-foot yacht to bring supplies to those who needed them. So together they took to Facebook with the #malibuhope, asking for volunteers to join them.

The supply mission was caught on video by local residents and reporters. Before traveling down to Paradise Cove, Malibu, Leight was heard saying to the volunteers:
“There’s been so much confusion. We need to get out on social media that supplies are going to start be unloaded in a little over an hour.”
Off they went with around 3,000 water bottles, 100 gallons of gasoline, snacks, dog food, lots of beer, and other necessities. However, the mission was almost a failure when they approached the cove.
The police stopped them with a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy saying:
“If we’re not letting people in by land, we’re not letting them in by sea.”
Luckily, there were a number of surfers and paddle boarders nearby who jumped in the water to transport the supplies to their final destination. After several trips, all the supplies were transferred to land safely.
A good portion of Leight's vineyard in the Santa Monica Mountains has been destroyed in the wildfires. He spent Friday night trying to save the vineyard and two of his homes.
When he was no longer under any threat he focused his efforts on what he could do for others. In 2003, the billionaire opened the winery after selling his hearing protection company, Howard Leight Industries, for $120million.
The Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyard consists of 10 planted acres which sit on a 37-acre plot.
In 1940, 338,226 Allied soldiers were rescued from the French port of Dunkirk. The operation occurred etween May 26 and June 4, as the soldiers had become trapped by encroaching German forces.
A flotilla of vessels by both civilian and military took on the massive mission to ferry them back across the English Channel. Hundreds of yachts, fishing boats, tugboats, Thames sailing barges, speedboats, steamboats, and lifeboats were used to bring the men from the beach in an operation which was codenamed “Dynamo.”
