She chose an eye-catching Dior coat in a geometric print from the Pre-Fall 2018 collection. The print on the coat consisted of bold red, white and brown strategically placed to stand out against each other.
Melania paired the bold colored coat with an all-black outfit underneath and plain black boots. She wore her hair in loose waves and kept her accessories to a minimum with just a few delicate rings on her fingers.
The simplicity of the rest of the outfit allowed the coat to stand out and act as a statement piece. However, the design of the coat sent fans into a flurry.
Fans reactions were polar opposites. Some absolutely hated it, while others loved it. Many took to Twitter to express their thoughts.
Some simply did not understand the design while others went as far as saying the first lady resembled a turkey with that coat on. ManyTwitter users were not fans of the designer coat stating the colors were just too similar to the bird she was honoring.
One user said with regards to the coat, "Seriously bad taste."
Some called Melania out for taking a page out Michelle Obama's style book. One user went as far as saying, "First Melania Trump plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech. Now she's copying her style. Geometric shapes in her coat look very familiar to the dress in the portrait (of Michelle)."
Others simply thought the outfit choice was very classy. They praised Melania for being fashion forward.
Earlier in the year, she had donned the now infamous Zara jacket with the slogan 'I really don't care, do u?' written across the back. At least this time, her jacket of choice was only a fashion controversy.
