Melania Trump gets slammed for her 'political stunt' of a Thanksgiving tweet
It’s not been a very festive Thanksgiving holiday for the First Lady of the United States. First, she was dragged online for her choice of outfit, and now she’s being criticized for a tweet many consider as insensitive.
On this #WorldKindnessDay I had fun surprising visitors to the @WhiteHouse! Thank you to all who come through and visit this magnificent home. #BeBest pic.twitter.com/vhwBGk31pv

On November 22, Melania Trump took to Twitter with a Thanksgiving message to all Americans:
“Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving!” Melania wrote on the social media site. “As we give thanks, let’s keep those who can’t be with their families in our thoughts today.”
Sadly, the FLOTUS missed the irony in her words, but social media users were only too eager to help her out.
A wonderful afternoon at Versailles yesterday with Mrs. Macron and many other spouses. After honoring the heroic actions taken during WWI, we gathered to reflect on our past & celebrate our future. #VeteransDay #Armistice100 #Paris pic.twitter.com/E65RipHVuw

They reminded her that her husband, President Donald Trump, recently deployed over 5,000 troops to the Southern U.S. border to intercept a caravan of harmless migrants and refugees of Central America.
The president’s move has been widely considered as a costly political stunt staged ahead of the midterm elections, and even the former President Barack Obama criticized it during the campaigns.
“Like the children that are still separated from their families? Or the military at the border awaiting a nonviolent caravan?”
Well, even though Melania seemed not to remember, many did. “Like the troops that are unnecessarily at the border?” one user asked pointedly.
Today we remember the brave actions of our troops and those of our allies during WWI. Honored to be spending this day honoring heroes in Paris. #VeteransDay pic.twitter.com/NQoteCqecH

Another remarked sarcastically:
“Let's keep those 5.600 troops in mind who can't be with their families today because a fake POTUS staged a fake imminent danger political stunt and deployed them to guard against a "walking" caravan of hungry, tired people who are over 1,000 miles away.”
We received the @WhiteHouse Christmas tree yesterday! It will grace the Blue Room throughout the season – hope you will come to the People’s house to see it! pic.twitter.com/nP8J7vJNv9

Some netizens also thought the First Lady’ tweet was inappropriate because there is still an unknown number of immigrant children who have been separated from their parents upon entering the U.S. to seek asylum. These children are being kept in what some describe as “cages” at migrant detention centers.
The @WhiteHouse is getting ready for the Christmas season! Thank you to the Smith Family & the National Christmas Tree Association for providing this year's tree. And to our @NatlParkService for their hard work in trimming the tree for the Blue Room. pic.twitter.com/jiyYBwCeXO

“Like the children that are still separated from their families? Or the military at the border awaiting a nonviolent caravan?” someone pointed out, while another added: “Yes, especially those who are children and are locked up without their families thanks to @realDonaldTrump, @SecNielsen, @DHSgov, and @ICEgov. #HappyThanksgiving”
Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving! As we give thanks, let’s keep those who can’t be with their families in our thoughts today. #Thanksgiving

As at the time of writing, the tweet already has over 7,000 comments, but Melania is yet to respond. Only two days ago, the First Lady came under fire for her choice of outfit.
The mom-of-one chose a $9,000 Dior coat for the turkey pardoning ceremony, but most folks online thought it was ridiculous. Others said it looked like a turkey and said as much in the comments.
We started the holiday season with the turkey pardon at @whitehouse yesterday.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! pic.twitter.com/5SfFJKXLnp
After the ceremony, Melania, along with the rest of her family, jetted off to their private Mar-a-Lago estate where they hosted a lavish Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.
