Gabrielle Union reveals she faced backlash after daughter Kaavia's birth in interview with Oprah
Gabrielle Union chokes up during her first interview as a mother with Oprah Winfrey, The actress reveals she was dragged for a photo she posted after her daughter's birth.
Gabrielle Union’s entry into motherhood came with some backlash according to the actress during a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey. Sitting down with the talk show host along with her husband, Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle revealed there were those who questioned the photos she shared on the day of her daughter’s birth.
A LOVELY DAY
November 7 was a special time for Gabrielle who finally became a mother at the age of 46. She welcomed her child who was born via surrogate and declared it a lovely day. She also gladly shared a photo of the proud parents with their daughter Kaavia James on her first day in this world. In one of the images she posted, Gabrielle was lying on a hospital bed with her daughter concealed by a blanket laying on her chest, skin to skin. Her husband looks over the mother and child.
FACING THE BACKLASH
In her interview with Oprah which is set to air on December 8, Gabrielle reveals the photo drew a lot of negative attention. Many questioned why she was on a hospital bed when she didn’t deliver her child. This brought back a lot of painful memories for Gabrielle who once admitted having undergone close to nine miscarriages and failed IVF attempts prompting her to finally give in to surrogacy.
Dwyane told Oprah in the interview’s teaser clip,
“Everyone started talking about why she acting like she just had a baby.”
When Oprah asked Gabrielle to explain, she was filled with emotion when she replied,
“I’m already getting choked up. It’s still hard to let go.”
A TV SPECIAL FOR THE FAMILY
Gabrielle and Dwyane’s interview will be part of the TV special “Oprah at Home with Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, and Their New Baby.” Weeks prior, the couple shared a snap of Oprah visiting their little girl at home. It was then that they also revealed they were working on a television special with the network mogul. The photo was shared on Kaavia's own Instagram account which now boasts of 279k followers. Not bad for a baby whose first photo with her parents was met with backlash.
