Eagle-eyed fan puts ‘Home Alone’ Christmas decorations under scrutiny, and her rant goes viral
A Twitter thread from Claire Reilly brought to attention a surprising detail about the decoration put up in the popular holiday movie, “Home Alone.”
Reilly took to Twitter to suggest that McAllister family from the movie might have been carried away while decoration their home for Christmas. She singled out several details and claimed that the family might have gone a bit overboard with the decoration.
The spirit of decoration extended far beyond just the living room. It also applied to the kitchen appliances, the wallpaper, and their landline telephone as well.
Reilly further joked that the McAllister family’s overdone Christmas decoration might have been the reason that their home was chosen by the Christmas bandits in the movie.
Can we talk about the McAllister's house in Home Alone for a second? Like, of COURSE you're going to be a target for Christmas bandits if your house is ENTIRELY Christmas themed! Okay, yes, they have a lot of Christmas decorations up, but that is JUST THE START... pic.twitter.com/9EN0SNyGJ2

Look at that wallpaper. What kind of monster has red wallpaper next to a green wall? Offset with contrasting green house plant and red candles? pic.twitter.com/9Lxm1ewfGv

Followed by this tweet, she posted several images of the scenes from the movie under the same thread and wrote hilarious captions pointing out the odd Christmas decoration in each of the scenes.
One of the first things she thought was a 'headache’ for any decorator was the red wallpaper placed next to a green wall. It was further decorated with a contrasting green house plant and red candles, which was off-putting for her.
Throw up a festive green tapestry in the green corridor on the way to your attic, why not! pic.twitter.com/SuKru6caDw

She also disapproved of the green tapestry placed in the green corridor on the way to the attic, which is visible in one of the early scenes from the movie.
She also attacked the family’s choice of owning a green landline phone, placed against a backdrop of red, white and green wallpaper. There are also red flowers hanging above the bed with red pillows.
Yes, it's the 90s, but who has a green LANDLINE PHONE? With red, white and green wallpaper? And red flowers hanging from the bed above red pillows? Did they cast Catherine O'Hara purely because of her red hair? This goes all the way to the top... pic.twitter.com/cYv7eTJMKK

Even the kitchen, which Reilly points out is the “worst” of all, is decorated entirely in the theme of Christmas. There are green tiles, red pots, red teapot, crimson floors, and a green rolling pin.
Home Alone is one of the most iconic Christmas movies of all time. Released over 25 years ago, it is still one of the most favorite holiday watches for many families.

The movie follows the life of a smart, young kid, Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, as he stands alone to protect his family home from two con men, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.
