Outrage ensues after CNN contributor Ana Navarro was caught filing her nails during live discussion
On Wednesday night, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo invited GOP commentator Steve Cortes and CNN political commentator Ana Navarro on his show “Cuomo Prime Time.”
The three were meant to debate live about the border wall controversy that has led to a partial government shutdown. During the segment, Navarro feigned boredom by filing her nails.
For her debate about the border wall, Ana Navarro brought along a nail file to keep her busy when she lost interest. While discussing Donald Trump Jr.’s tweet in which he equated the border wall to a zoo fence, Navarro briefly took out the nail file.

She added:
“I mean, this is an entitled, rich, spoiled little brat whose only call to fame is being his daddy's son. Who hasn't built anything of his own, who hasn't done anything of his own, who is somehow trying to hang on to the fame of his father in order to have some level of relevancy.”
Cuomo noticed the move and called it, “a great prop. I want you to know that.” He added: “I think you probably brought it in by accident, but it worked very well for you Ana, kudos to you.”
That wasn’t the last time the nail file would make a controversial appearance. When GOP commentator Steve Cortes began using the term “fake news,” Navarro sighed and pulled out her prop.
Her dismissive nature upset GOP commentator and he replied: “You do your nails. You know who can't do their nails? Are people who have been killed, Ana, by dangerous known illegal aliens who have been allowed to stay in this country because of the leftist policies that people like you promote in so-called sanctuary cities.”
Navarro took issue, again, with being called a leftist and told Cortes she was tired of it. The debate fell through as the two guests shouted at each other with Cortes saying at one point, “Go back to filing your nails.
The show’s host ended things by declaring:
“Steve, let me just tell you something. Get down off the soapbox. Because if you want to worry about who can file their nails, worry about who can pay their damn bills.”
He concluded:
“The shutdown is on your head, my brother. This is what the president wanted. He has it now and people are paying the price. And until they end it, they won’t be filing their nails or anything else that a paycheck provides.”
President Donald Trump has demanded $5 billion to fund a wall between the US and Mexico. However, the Democrats have refused his demands.
On Tuesday evening, the president gave an Oval Office address about the issue. Trump is now threatening to declare the border crisis a national emergency if Democrats keep refusing to allow wall funding.
“The Atlantic” recently covered an opinion piece on what a border wall truly means. The article also covers some historical background on borders and border walls.
