Samantha Bee blasts Trump over HIV and abortion claims in her latest TV show
On Wednesday, “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee took President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address to task. One of the things she delved into was his ideas on abortion.
During his speech, the president asked the chamber to abolish late-term abortions that would stop mothers from terminating pregnancies in the late stage.
Samantha Bee announced that she had an issue with President Donald Trump’s call to remove late-term abortions. She joked, "My ovaries just tried to move back to Canada."
The president had asked Congress to pass legislation regarding fetuses "who can feel pain the mother's womb." The television host revealed that the proposed policy was quite "worrying."
Bee explained that although a number of recent Republican politicians have tried to restrict abortion rights, "Trump might have the Supreme Court to do it." The host was referring to the controversial appointment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
She added:
"I always knew someday a Republican president would try to take away my right to choose, I just didn't think it would be the kind of president who's definitely tried to go dutch on an abortion."
Then she tackled his claim that he had a budget that would persuade Republicans and Democrats to "eliminate the HIV epidemic in the United States" by 2030. Bee acknowledged Trump’s "worthy" proposition but she had some qualms about it.
She explained that it would’ve been more realistic if the president hadn't fired his HIV/AIDS advisory council. Trump also took funds from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program to pay for immigration detention.
In stark contradiction with his statement, she also revealed that he ended a study that was looking for a cure for the disease plus he took away protections for LGBT Americans. She also mocked him saying his statement was shocking since it came from a man "who believes science is a Chinese hoax."
Besides being a television host, Samantha Anne Bee is a Canadian-American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, and actress. She rose to fame as a correspondent on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.
In 2015, she left the show after 12 years to start her own one, “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
