Andrea Bocelli once made a tribute to his mom who risked her life by not aborting him
In 2010, the Italian singer sat at the piano on a stage and as he played he told the story of his mother’s difficulties while expecting him, and how she put his life first in a loving and courageous gesture that allowed his existence.
A 2:27 long clip in YouTube that has been viewed more than 600.000 times, shows the 60-year-old tenor introducing one of his songs by telling a story about a woman facing a hard decision about whether or not interrupt her pregnancy.
As the story progresses, we learn that he is telling the story of his own mother when she was expecting him, and he uses his mother’s example to inspire other mothers in similar situations to “make the right decision.”
Andrea’s story starts with a young and pregnant Edi Aringhieri, the artist’s mother, entering the hospital “for a simple attack of appendicitis” without imagining that she was going to face a life-changing decision.
According to him, when his mother’s treatment ended she was informed by the doctors that her son was going to be born with some disability and the best thing for her to do was to abort the child.
Bocelli completely lost his sight at age 12, following a long struggle with congenital glaucoma, which he was diagnosed with early in his life. He began singing at age 7 and found his passion, which he never stopped pursuing.
“But the young brave wife decided not to abort and the child was born. That woman was my mother, and I was the child. Maybe I’m partisan but I can say that it was the right choice.”

“I hope this encourages many mothers that sometimes find themselves in difficult situations but want to save the life of their baby,” Bocelli concluded before moving on to play “an old song that my kids love.”
“I want to live like this with the sun on my face, and I sing happily, gracefully. I want to live like this, with the air of the mountains, because this enchantment doesn't cost anything,” he sings at the end of the video.
Thanks to his mother’s determination to give birth to her son, not only he grew up to be a world-famous star that delights us all with his amazing gift, but he also had the joy of creating life himself.
Married twice, the singer is the father of Amos and Matteo with his first wife Enrica Cenzatti, and he had a daughter, Virginia, with his second wife Veronica Berti, with whom he married in 2014 after spending 12 years together.

Andrea’s second son, 21-year-old Matteo, has followed his father’s steps to become a singer. His father invited him to collaborate in a beautiful duet that served as Andrea’s latest album “Si.”
The handsome Matteo appeared alongside his father in a music video performing the song titled “Fall On Me,” with the two wearing matching black tuxedos. Andrea looks very proud of Matteo in the video, showing a broad grin while playing.
The father and the son have teamed up once again to kick off the Sanremo Music Festival, also known as “Italy’s Eurovision,” on February 5, performed both “Fall On Me” and the closing track of Disney’s “The Nutcracker.”
