A white Hamden school district employee has resigned after she was caught on camera using racist slurs and spitting at a black couple.

The white woman, who has since been identified as Corinne Terrone, was a secretary for the Hamden school district.

In a 54-second video posted to Facebook on March 16, Terrone is seen verbally attacking an African American couple in a supermarket while her kids look on. Not only does she use the N-word and F-word repeatedly, but she also charges after the couple to spit at them.

“I am thankful for the swift and effective actions taken by our school system."

The sickening incident was filmed by a witness who also revealed in the caption that it took place at Shoprite in East Haven, Connecticut.

The footage went viral in no time and already has over 600,000 views. According to Hartford Courant, Terrone was called into a meeting with the human resources director after school officials caught wind of the video. She resigned shortly after that meeting.

In a statement obtained by NY Daily News, the school district stated:

“The language the employee used in the video is in conflict with the values of the Hamden Public School System. Someone who will use that sort of language in any setting, whether public or private, is not someone we want anywhere near our children. The employee is separated from service, and we hope that her children will receive the support they need after witnessing such a traumatic event.”

East Haven police are also said to be investigating the matter and are urging any potential victims to come forward with more information.

Hamden’s Mayor Curt Leng vocally condemned the employee’s actions, describing it as “vile” and “shocking.”

“While I am disgusted and disheartened seeing such hateful behavior, wildly unacceptable anywhere,” he added. “I am thankful for the swift and effective actions taken by our school system to address this head on and make clear that hate and violence will not be tolerated.”

While no complaint has been filed yet concerning the incident, spitting on someone can amount to an assault, and Connecticut also has several hate crime laws.

Like the black couple attacked by Terrone, a black high school basketball player was also recently subjected to racist name-calling and taunts during a game.

His only offense? He was playing exceptionally well, and the home team could not stand losing to a black kid.
