Inside Cher's Complicated Relationship with Younger Son Elijah Who Felt 'Shunned' as a Child

Elijah Blue, Cher’s son with Gregg Allman, tells all about his turbulent relationship with his famous mom.

While his high profile brother Chaz Bono has taken most of the spotlight, not much has been said about Cher’s other son Elijah Blue. He is also a musician known professionally as P. Exeter Blue and has had an almost non-existent relationship with his mother.

Elijah said,

“I’ve always been the black sheep of my family. The reason being we just have different value systems, and we just have a different mentality, and that clashes a lot. We have lots of ups and downs and right now isn’t the best time.”

Sent away to boarding school since he was seven years old, Elijah said he was also sent to a military school for a year by his mother as a form of punishment for misbehaving.

He has also been sent to rehab for his addiction to heroin and painkillers.

“My drug addiction was pretty much about an eight-year thing of really heavy using. I was taking lots of drugs on the road. I was smoking dope (heroin), taking a lot of pills, any painkiller we could get, and drinking.”

His most recent act of rebellion was eloping with his fiancée Angie King after chose not to acknowledge their engagement.

“I wasn’t going to wait for anyone’s approval and congratulations just like I’ve never waited for any of that my whole life. The way I eloped with my wife is the same way I’ve done everything I’ve ever done. I don’t know any other way, and we knew it was the right time.”

Elijah says of his relationship with his famous mom,

“Had we been getting on a little bit better along maybe it would have been different. It’s like a Mexican standoff, but we have a history (of not talking). When I first started my band we went a long time, maybe a couple of years.”

Elijah’s brother, Chaz Bono, has also had a story to tell about his relationship with Cher. The mother and son have been through a lot especially since Chaz was once Cher’s daughter Chastity. It took some time for the star to come to terms with Chastity’s sexual orientation and decision to transition into a man.

Cher, who now has nothing but support and admiration for Chaz, once said,

“It’s a strange thing for a mother to go through.”
