Taraji P Henson Surprises Stepmom with a Gorgeous Home Makeover 13 Years after Her Dad's Death
Taraji P Henson gave her stepmother a beautiful and very thoughtful gift for Mothers' Day, in gratitude for the love she had for her father.
The star of "Empire" decided to surprise her stepmother during the last episode of "My Houzz" with an impressive makeover at home, despite the fact that more than 10 years have passed since her father's death.
“My dad always said, ‘If you have been blessed, then it is your duty to go out into the world and be a blessing,’ so I feel like I’m doing what my dad told me I should do,” Henson explained.
As you can see in the first episode of the third season of her Youtube show, the acclaimed actress surprised her stepmother Angie with a complete renovation of her home, where there was no space that did not receive a magnificent transformation.
Henson met her stepmother during her teenage years and was deeply moved to see that she had made her father a better man, precisely at the time he most needed it.
After Henson's father fell ill and died in 2006, Angie remained living alone in the house. Henson wanted to give it a new look and that's why she decided to hire the interior designer, Stephanie Gamble.
The award-winning actress explained in detail each of the things of the house that she hoped to change drastically, but her main concern was that Angie felt comfortable with the modifications.
“The dining room and kitchen seems a bit cramped. And the appliances are old. The cabinets are falling apart. It’s a bit dark in there, too, so I just wanna bring more life and light into that house. We just kind of want to make the house hers now, and still keep my Dad in it,” she said.
Henson knows her stepmother very well and knew that the best way to satisfy her with the transformation, was to create a cozy open meeting space and a spacious kitchen equipped with everything necessary.
The wall that divided the kitchen and the living room had been demolished so that it would become a comfortable and luminous space in which Angie could receive her loved ones and delight them with some of the exquisite dishes that she loves to cook.
Angie was totally amazed at the results: “The way the house is, is very comfortable to me because the artwork my husband did is still in the home. Deep down in my heart, I really, really appreciate it. I’m sure he’d appreciate it, too, what she had done for us.”
Recently, Henson appeared on tabloids because of her absence in the MET gala. Despite she is always present at the fashion event, Henson decided to miss it this year to attend the private funeral of her dear friend and colleague John Singleton, at the Angelus Funeral Home in Los Angeles.
