Solange Knowles: Fashion, New Album & Canceling Her Coachella Performance
Solange Knowles kicked off her 2019 with a bang. The Grammy Award-winning R&B singer-songwriter has had a rollercoaster year already and it’s only May.
The stunning younger sister of the world famous singer Beyonce, Solange Knowles stepped out of her sister’s shadow with her first album in 2016. Her amazing talents earned her a massive following of her own.
She has evolved from just a singer to an award-winning performer and style icon. This year she’s determined to reiterate her stardom.
Notable Style Choices:
She is known for her unique style and taste in fashion. Her fans expect stunning looks and she has not disappointed.
She set pulses racing with a series of steamy outfits.
In February, Knowles was the guest of honor at the Parsons School of Design gala in NYC. The 31-year-old singer was accompanied by fellow artists Kelela and Dev Hynes. She wore a gorgeous cutout black outfit featuring utility belts.

She paired the unique ensemble with a pair of strappy heels and silver earrings. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail.
Then in March, she set pulses racing with a series of steamy outfits for her then-upcoming album launch. The "Cranes in the Sky" singer posted a series of photos showing off semi-nude outfits to create a “Black Barbie” vibe.
The images were initially posted to the website BlackPlanet. It was accompanied with tour dates and what appeared to be song lyrics. The pictures were then reposted to Instagram by The Shade Room.
In one picture, Solange appeared naked with a few pieces of sheer latex covering her chest and arms. Her hand was placed strategically to conceal her cleavage. Her black hair was parted down the middle.
In a second image, the upper part of the singer’s bronzed back was concealed by her hair. Her hair stopped just above her derriere and allowed it to be displayed. The picture made Solange glow like a Barbie doll.
While in another photo her face was behind a cage-like accessory. One snapshot of her dancing in lingerie and cowboy boots.
Her New Album:
She released a new album, called “When I Get Home,” shortly after the pictures were released. The album was a follow-up to her 2016 release called “A Seat at the Table.”
The new album featured contributions from Panda Bear, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, Gucci Mane, Playboi Carti, Dev Hynes, Cassie, Pharrell, Sampha, and many more. Solange wrote and executive produced the record.
She also announced several Saint Heron events which she described as an “album experience.”
In a 2018 T Magazine profile, Solange stated that the album was recorded in a variety of locations including New Orleans, Jamaica, and California’s Topanga Canyon.
“There is a lot of jazz at the core,” said Solange about her album. “But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle.”
Calling Off Coachella:
After the very successful album release and events, fans were eagerly gearing up to see their favorite singer at Coachella. The music festival is one of the biggest music gatherings of the year.
Unfortunately, Solange Knowles was forced to cancel her appearance after “production delays.” The festival took to their official Twitter account to announce that she won't be in the lineup.
"Due to major production delays, Solange will unfortunately no longer be performing at this year's festival. She sends her sincerest apologies and looks forward to performing at Coachella in the future," read the tweet from Coachella.
A day after the announcement, TMZ revealed that sources close to the production claimed members of Solange's band got sick. She reportedly canceled her set after she could not find the replacements that worked well together.
Solange decided that she could not deliver a great show at the festival without her original band and ultimately decided to pull the plug. She was reportedly devastated about making the decision. Her sister, Beyonce, also canceled as a Coachella headliner as she was pregnant with twins.
Fans are now eagerly waiting to see what Solange will do next and if she will make up for missing such an important event.
