Despite her superstar stature, Missy Elliott is only human, too, and her hair gets frizzy like the rest of us.

With countless meetings, concerts, and events in her calendar, Missy Elliott's hair is prone to damage because of the constant use of hair products and straighteners. She often has a hairstylist for these events, but there are also days when she's left to do her hair alone.

Bad Hairday Problems

On Instagram, she took a video of herself straightening her hair with music booming on the background. She asked her followers for help on how to stop her hair from being frizzy after using a hair iron.

“It’s Da Freaking Weekend somebody come flat iron my hair I don’t even know if I’m doing it right it keeps getting frizzy,” she captioned the post.

While she's as simple as can be, Missy is actually a doctor who received her honorary diploma last month. Thanks to more than a decade of her stellar work, the Berklee College of Music felt she was deserving of such recognition. The 10-time Grammy Award winner was given an honorary Doctor of Music degree last May 11, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Making History

Last month's ceremony made Elliott the first female rapper in history to ever receive an honorary doctorate from the prestigious college. The school referred to Elliott as a "groundbreaking solo superstar, pioneering producer, songwriter, singer, and rapper," and asked her to share a speech with her fellow graduates.

"As long as you are breathing, it is never too late. Don’t forget that. You have come too far to quit.“

Abundance of Blessings

It's been a great couple of months for Missy, who not only received her degree but also an induction to the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Elliott also made history when she became the first female rapper to be inducted to the Songwriter Hall of Fame, and just the second rapper to be given the honor, joining Jay-Z who was awarded the recognition in 2017.

Congratulations, Missy! We wish you all the best in life and many more achievements to come - including finding the solution to your frizzy hair!
