Meet Hoda Kotb's beloved siblings - Adel and Hala
Television personality Hoda Kotb has a brother, Adel and a sister, Hala. Let's get to know them.
In her 2011 memoir "Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer, and Kathie Lee," Hoda opened up about her siblings — Adel and Hala.
"We three grew up thick as thieves," she wrote. "Thieves who stole stuff from each other."
Hoda continued that they "fought hard and played hard, but if any outsider tried to mess with one of us — watch out."
According to her, Hala is one of the reasons they've all remained incredibly close throughout the years.
"Her commitment to family is old school, rooted in the theory that years and miles don't stand a chance against the bond of blood," Hoda wrote. "She's fiercely protective, loyal, and at the ready."
The family lived in Egypt for a year, as well as in Nigeria. Their mother Sameha works at the Library of Congress. Meanwhile, their father Abdel Kader Kotb was a fossil energy specialist and was listed in the Who's Who of Technology. He passed away in 1986 at 51 years old.
"When my dad died, Hala moved in with my mom," Hoda wrote. "She also lived with my brother at one point when she moved back from working overseas in London. She stayed with me for about five months when I needed help and support with a health issue."
Hoda said that Hala had been there to tighten the loop whenever their family ties have loosened.
In her book, Hoda also shared how Adel helped her in her critical moment.
"When I got my first job out of college in Mississippi, I was flat broke. And I needed a car," she wrote.
Hoda said Adel gave her all his money so that she could purchase a vehicle.
"He never said one word about it, either — there's none of that with him," she wrote. "He's gold. And now, he has a little gold nugget named Hannah."
Hoda is currently in a relationship with New York financier Joel Schiffman. The couple are doting parents to two adopted daughters — Haley Joy and Hope Catherine.
