"I never thought a lot about doing it until I got into college because I was able to break away from my family and started to establish my own identity."
In 2017, Hutchins resigned her position as Class President at the university in order to transition to a transgender woman.
In an interview on The Hidden Truth with Jim Breslo, Hutchins opened up about her relationship with Jenner.
Hutchins explained that she and Jenner are simply partners who live together but are not in a romantic relationship.
"Its unfortunate that the media has fixated onto is it romantic or is it not. I don't think we need to talk about is it romantic or not," Hutchins said.
"We're partners in everything we do. We're inseparable. We're business partners, we live together, we share a dog, we share a family, we share a life together."
Hutchins and Jenner have previously denied that their relationship is romantic.
"We are not going to get into that. But we are very close. We do a lot of things together. We're kind of inseparable. We're the best of friends," Jenner said in an interview.
According to Nicki Swift, Pepperdine University Graphic revealed that Jenner's 20/20 interview was crucial to Hutchins' own personal journey.
Jenner, a retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete, announced her gender transition in that interview.
Speaking about her own transition, Hutchins said: "I've always had the question of, 'Do I want to transition from male to female?' I never thought a lot about doing it until I got into college because I was able to break away from my family and started to establish my own identity. College gave me the time to deal with a lot of issues that had always been there."
Hutchins presently works as the executive director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, Cosmopolitan reported.
