Dad Refuses to Pay for Daughter's College Education If She Switches Her Major

A father could not help but express his frustration over his daughter’s seemingly impulsive decision to shift majors.

On Reddit, the father wrote that his daughter is currently a freshman in college and has just started the first semester.

“I have been saving for over 10 years to do this and I am happy to do it, as long as I feel she is actually setting herself up for success,” he wrote.

On fall break, his daughter came to stay with him over the weekend after spending a few days at his ex’s house.

One morning, she casually told him of his plans to change majors. "I was shocked by this and asked why and what she was changing to," he wrote.

"She is planning on switching into the liberal arts program. Now I know the major is the go-to punching bag and it feels cliché, but I was honestly a little shocked by how casually she acted about this."

His daughter said that she now hates computer science and that she has made many friends who are majoring in liberal arts. He then asked her about her future career plans.

“And she decided to ignore me and tell me that it's none of my business and that she's an adult. This angered me. I'm the one paying for this I feel I have a right to know and not be blown off like that,” he continued.

He told her she can pay for her own education if she decides to shift to liberal arts. They had another heated argument and she left telling him he was trying to control her life.

Reddit users have mixed feelings about the father’s reaction, with some saying that he was being reasonable while others said what he did was a bad parenting move, according to Up Worthy.

That night, he sat her down and he explained that although she’s an adult, he is the one paying for her education.

He told her that she may change her major, but she must choose the one that can get her a well-earning career.
