Gelila Bekele is mostly known for her relationship with director Tyler Perry, but the gorgeous Ethiopian model is way more than just someone's girlfriend. She's strong, smart, and talented, and is now starting to develop her abilities as a martial arts fighter.

A STUNNING STUDENT

Bekele, who shares son Aman with Perry, recently took to Instagram to share a gorgeous picture from her first day at classes of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a type of martial art and combat sport that emphasizes ground fighting.

They also keep their son away from the spotlight, and Perry recently explained that there won't be photos of little Aman on social media because they're not "that kind of parents."

She donned a classic black kimono with her white belt for the pic, posing barefoot in the middle of her academy's store, and with a big smile on her face. Her big mane of curls was loose, and she didn't wear makeup.

"One of the most humbling experiences. First day training of the rest of my life @renzogracieacademy #brazilianjiujitsu," she captioned the post.

FANS' REACTIONS AND WELL WISHES

Fans and friend of Gelila took over her comment section to show excitement for her new hobby. Like one user who wrote, "Oh my god, you started BJJ!!!! Let’s roll!"

Another had one word of advice, telling Bekele to "Protect yourself! Braids are the best!"

And a third one pointed out two important things:

"You look absolutely gorgeous in everything you wear. This is great you will never regret it. All women should know how to defend themselves."

GELILA'S ACTIONS FOR A BETTER WORLD

The model and documentary-maker has been working for years with several organizations to provide education to underprivileged girls in Ethiopia and other sides of Africa.

In 2015, she released the documentary “Mai: Life is not Honey,” which follows a day in the life of young girls in a rural village of Ethiopia.

That, and her photography book, "Guzo," give people an inside look at the lives of different tribes in Ethiopia, “from their customs, culture, traditions, and religious practices–to their dwellings, agricultural work, and the startling landscape upon which they roam.”

The profits from the book are destined to help two causes close two Bekele's heart: education, and the supply of clean water to underprivileged communities in Africa.

HER RELATIONSHIP TO PERRY

Gelila and the "Madea" creator have been dating for more than a decade and welcomed son Aman in 2014.

However, they like to maintain their relationship out of the spotlight, and although there have been rumors about the couple being married, neither has confirmed or denied it.

They also keep their son away from the spotlight, and Perry recently explained that there wouldn't be photos of little Aman on social media because they're not "that kind of parents."

"We’re trying very hard to keep him protected so that he can know who he is before he gets into the crazy bull [expletive] of this social media world," Perry said.
