According to the Redditor, both of his parents are in their 60s. The mother has always been the bread-winner of the house. As for the father, he has never had a stable job all his life and lives off of his wife's earnings.

The OP's dad never had a stable job for more than a few years. Once when the OP was in high school, he had a job for around 3-4 years but he got fired because of some petty act of his.

What's more, the father would drink all night and sleep all day when the OP was younger. The OP's mom was the bread-winner of the family and always the one to pay all the bills. She kept the family financially stable.

The mooch father always tried to keep the OP and his brother close to home. In fact, he was so obsessive about it that he didn't like it when the OP went off to college. He even had a problem when the OP moved in with his partner.

THE PARANOID FATHER

According to the OP, his father would always worry about who would take care of him when his wife dies. OP's brother bought a house close to his parent's place and the father wanted the OP to do the same. But he went against the old man's wishes and moved about 5 hours away from his place for a job.

To this day, the OP and his father have discussions about whether he will move back home and take care of his father should his other pass away. Although the OP has no plans to do so, his father doesn't seem to stop nagging him.

During the family Christmas dinner, the father brought up the matter again. This time, the OP didn't hold back from firing back at him and said:

“I don’t know why you think I need to uproot my life in another city, my job security, and everything else to come back home to take care of you. I have told you countless times I don’t plan on it so stop [explitive] asking me.”

THE VERDICT

The OP's mother totally supports him in his decision to not come back home. Although she is healthier than her husband, he is still paranoid about what might happen if she is gone.

So when the OP decided to share his story online and let the Redditors decide who is at fault, the ones who read his story took to the comments section to share their opinion. A majority of them took the OP's side and shared that his father must sleep on the bed he made.
