A bisexual woman had started a discussion online after sharing that she didn't ask her father to walk her down the aisle since she expected he wouldn't like to do it either.

According to Reddit user Aislethrowaway, she's engaged and currently planning to tie the knot with her female partner of three years next year.

She was 15 when she came out as bi, and since then, her father has not been supportive of her. He was even upset when she first introduced her fiancee to him.

A HOMOPHOBIC FATHER

Her father made it clear that he doesn't approve of her being with a woman. She wrote:

"Basically he's been casually homophobic my entire life, you know the type. He's not providing any financial support for the wedding & when I asked if he would actually be attending the wedding he just gave me a snide 'we'll see' so I honestly wasn't even expecting he would turn up."

Part of their intended wedding ceremony will include her being walked down the aisle and given away.

HER PATERNAL FIGURE

She assumed her father wouldn't have any desire to walk her down the aisle, and she didn't want him to either, so she asked a male friend instead.

"This man has known me for almost half my life, he's like a mentor to me & honestly has been more of a father figure to me than my actual dad has, I love him like a paternal figure," she wrote.

Since the woman shared her post, it has accumulated quite a bit of attention. Also, it has received a lot of comments as individuals reveal their opinions.

UNDERMINING HIS AUTHORITY

When her father learned about her decision, he got mad and told her that she was undermining his power as a parent and making him look like a fool to everybody who will attend the wedding.

The woman admitted she didn't consider asking him and that she genuinely didn't see the need to.

She speculated it'll be embarrassing for her father if he comes. However, thinking about his conduct towards her and her fiancee throughout their relationship, she didn't feel like he's justified to make this demand.

"I'd consider explicitly telling him not to come," one of the commenters wrote. Another added that honestly, she thinks her father should not be invited to her big day.

Someone else wrote that walking his daughter down the aisle is a privilege, not a right, and his behavior has guaranteed that he's not deserving of that privilege.

In another controversial post on Reddit, a man had caused quite a stir for responding negatively after his date revealed to him that she has a 4-year-old son.

He even told the woman he wasn't looking to date a mother. Many users also commented on his post, with one saying that he has every right to turn her down.
