World's Tallest Dog Is Now the Oldest Living Great Dane
A new record has been broken in the canine world, and it's a second win for the world's tallest dog.
Being crowned the word's tallest dog is already a pretty great achievement for man's best friend, but for one special pooch, that just wasn't enough.
Freddy, who lives in the UK with his owners, is not only over seven feet tall, he also just became the oldest living Great Dane.
The giant pooch lives at home in Weeting, Norfolk with Claire Stoneman and his younger sister Fleur, who is quite a big girl herself.
To celebrate the significant milestone, Stoneman and her neighbor Erin Manley,7, put together a special birthday party or the two loveable giants.
"Freddy and Fleur had a great birthday party and they both had the best time. We decorated the garden and they got loads of their favorite treats and cuddly toys."
Erin, who has known the Great Dane all of her life, is best friends with Freddy but has not been able to see him as much, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Guinness World Record has confirmed that Freddy is the oldest Great Dane on record. Stoneman has shared that she will be applying for the record.
He's walked early in the morning so that they avoid crowds.
Freddy weighs about 210 pounds and has completely bonded with Erin. She sometimes calls him before she goes to bed to say goodnight to her furry friend.
He's walked early in the morning so that they avoid crowds as the giant dog can often intimidate people. However, Claire insists that he is just a gentle giant. She said,
"Despite their size, they're very kind-natured and put their paws on you if they know you're upset. They love cuddling and I sleep with them on two mattresses in the living room at night."
Taking care of such a large pet can get complicated, and Claire admitted that feeding Freddy can set her back £500 a month.
The gentle giant who started as the runt of the litter now eats a mixture of kibble, minced beef, roast chicken, and a lot of treats.
Freddy, who measured at 3.395 feet tall, was named the world's tallest living dog by the Guinness World Records in 2017.
While his favorite snack is Wonky chomps, treats on his birthday included cake, cuddly toys, and even balloons.
