A false promise led a 17-year-old girl to be angry at her mother. Instead of a brand new iPad, as her mother promised, she gave her an old version of the gadget.
On Reddit, the teenager shared that her mother, 41, had received a deal from her company. If she could have a certain number of people sign up for direct selling at her company in a short period of time, she would get the latest iPad model.
Her mother is a very competitive person, and this trait helped make her among the top employees of the MLM direct sales company. It led her to earn big trips and prizes all the time.
She asked her daughter to sign her friends up in exchange for the new iPad. The girl was able to have five friends join the list with no pressure.
The iPad came in the mail, and the mother gave it to her. The girl was so excited as it was her first time to own an Apple product.
But her excitement turned into anger when her mother admitted she gave her an old and used iPad. Her mother admitted to resetting, cleaning the item, and stored it back to its box.
The girl argued that it was not the deal they had agreed on. Her mother explained that the new ones would serve her better at work and that the girl should be happy with the old iPad.
"I was really angry about it and it's been a few years now and I still get annoyed when I think about it," the girl wrote.
The girl said her mother never apologized after her admission. Instead, her mother told the girl she was being selfish. The situation between the girl and her mother drew several reactions on the internet forum.
Some think the girl is not being selfish. "Not because of the iPad itself, but because people shouldn't make promises they won't or can't keep," one Reddit user wrote.
Another one said that what her mother did was manipulative. "Your mum promised the NEW iPad if you helped her and you did. Then she tried to deceive you by giving you her old one."
This teenager is not alone in her predicament. There is another story about a young man who is about to graduate college and asks his father for a sports car as a gift. Check out the rest of the story.
