Weddings come with a lot of unrealistic expectations for the bride's friends as they are supposed to shoulder undeserved burdens, but when does it become too much?

Today's story is about a woman who refused to pay for her friend's wedding because she wasn't made a bridesmaid. Taking to Reddit to tell her case, the woman explained that she had been close friends with Josie for almost six years despite having a huge age gap.

THE BACKSTORY

According to her, Josie and her boyfriend have been together for more than 15 years, and after having kids decided to officially tie the knot. The poster disclosed that the couple opted for an intimate wedding party in a rented mansion with a guest of about 15 people.

The property is close to a water body, and as such, there was going to be a lot of fun activities for the guests. As a result, the couple suggested that the guests donate a sum of money, which the woman described as "pricey," to lodging at the property instead of gifts.

The woman pointed out that Josie also had other friends, a woman named Melody, who she has been with for three years and have a frenemy kind of relationship. There is also Valerie, a close girlfriend from work, who is planning the wedding with Josie.

EXEMPTED FROM THE BRIDESMAIDS LIST

The poster recounted a day she and the bride-to-be had lunch and were going over the details of the wedding, and she found that her name wasn't on the invite list. She asked Josie about it, but she brushed it off just an "oversight."

The poster also noticed that three women, Melody, Valerie, and the bride's sister, had stars close to their names and asked why. Josie answered, saying they were her bridesmaid.

Concerned that she wasn't a bridesmaid, the woman asked Josie if her name was going to be included, and she said no. The bride stated that because Melody was more sensitive and Valerie helped her plan the wedding, she thought it right that they should be the bridesmaids.

THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL'S BACK

Although she felt hurt, the poster decided to let it go and focus on making the wedding a success for her friend, but that was until something happened. Josie showed her the house's plan, and on realizing that the rooms wouldn't be enough, asked who would be doubling.

To her surprise, the bride told her that although no one would share, the poster would have to choose between sleeping on the couch or bunking with the kids, because she is the only one without a plus one.

Still deciding to be graceful, the poster told Josie not to worry about her as she would lodge in a nearby hotel instead. However, she insisted that the poster stay around as she couldn't get married without her. That was when the poster lost it and told Josie that she could obviously get married without her.

Her statement riled Valerie and Melody, who accused her of being too sensitive and "ruining the wedding."

REDDITORS REACT

After reading the story, many netizens sided with the poster saying that Josie clearly was taking advantage of her. Others noted that the bride was selfish and thoughtless for asking her to pay so much to bunk with the kids or sleep on a couch.
