A man sought advice from an online forum after his refusal to give his late mother's wedding ring to his sister led to them having a dispute. His sister thought he was being unreasonable.

In his recent Reddit post, Rico (not his real name) explained why he wanted to keep the wedding ring his mother gave him when he was still engaged to his ex-girlfriend.

"A long time ago I was engaged to someone and my mum was amazing enough to let me have her wedding ring to give to my ex [sic]," Rico wrote. Unfortunately, they never got married.

After he and his ex-fiancee called it quits, Rico said his mother told him to keep the ring because he might need it again in the future. Five years ago, his mother died, and he kept the ring as he promised.

Rico said that he thought of marrying his current girlfriend so he could use the wedding ring, but he has changed his mind. He said he just wants his girlfriend to be his life partner.

For now, Rico said that the ring is more of a piece of memorabilia from her mother. However, he still considers using it as an anniversary gift in the future. But one day, his sister's fiancé Marco (not his real name), visited him at his home.

Rico's aunt told him his only options right now are to either give his sister the ring and make peace with her, or he should pay for a replica to be made for his sister.

Marco asked him about the status of his relationship with his girlfriend and whether or not they had any plans to get married. When Rico said they had no plans of getting married, Marco moved right into what he wanted to talk about - his mother's wedding ring.

Marco disclosed to him that Lea (not her real name), Rico's sister, wishes for it to be her wedding ring. But Rico told Marco he could not give away the ring. "He said he understood, and left afterward," Rico wrote.

But then Lea called him. Furious, she told him that since he had no plans of getting married, she deserved to have the wedding ring because she was going to marry Marco.

Rico said he just hung up and left things there. But then Lea told their aunt about his decision to keep their mother's wedding ring. And now their aunt has been calling him non stop, he said.

This family drama is not uncommon in the popular online forum. In another controversial post on Reddit, a man sparked a passionate debate after revealing that he left the country to avoid paying child support.
