Woman Removed Her 15-Year-Old Son's Door — Here's Why
An exasperated mother wants to know if she was right to punish her 15-year-old son for being a nuisance by removing the door to his room.
A woman lives with her 15-year-old son, 7-year-old daughter, 16-year-old daughter, and husband. Though their numbers make their house feel a bit crowded at times, everyone had their own room complete with a bathroom, so nobody had to share.
Her son and older daughter share a close bond. That does not mean they don't fight because, according to the woman, they do fight even if it's not as much as other siblings do.

However, one of the things that cause disagreement is the boy's tendency to burst through her door whenever he decides he wishes to speak to her. According to the woman, the breach of privacy started around the same time COVID-19 started.
She stated that if the boy meets the girl's door locked upon arrival, he will hit it with his shoulder until she answers. Anytime the sister urges him to stop, he pays her no mind, and when their parents ask him to, the boy only lays off for a day before resuming the destructive behavior.
According to the woman, the boy is a big fan of privacy and is quick to educate anyone on its importance, so the fact that he disregards other people's privacy grates on their nerves.
The woman decided to take a drastic step after her son barged in on his sister as she changed. It was the first time it happened, and the girl was pissed off about it and reported the incident to the woman and her husband.
The couple decided to speak to their son about it, telling him that since he can't respect other people's privacy, then he can't have his own. After the talk, they took down his bedroom door but left the bathroom door.
The decision was taken by the woman, and she alleged that her husband does not think it was a terrible thing to do, but he does believe they should have just helped the girl prank the boy.
However, there's no going back for her, and she wonders if she is being a tyrant for deciding to keep the door for a week despite his begging. She doesn't seem to be convinced he's changed, and she revealed that before taking off his door, there had been several other punishments, including grounding and loss of allowances.
Users who read the woman's piece thought she was doing the right thing. They praised her for standing her ground and blamed her husband for being flip about the whole incident.
