Story of the Day: Woman Does Not Want a Friend to Bring Her Kids to Her House

A woman recently took to Reddit to ask the other forum users if she made the wrong decision to forbid her friend from bringing children to her house.

Rhea (not her real name) shared that her friend Alicia (not her real name) always told her she would bring her two little boys to her house one day because she believes it will be good for them to change scenery.

According to Rhea, her house is not child-friendly, and Alicia knows about it. "I don't have kids, and my nephews are almost teenagers now, so I never needed to accommodate little ones in this house," she explained.

Her house has two staircases without doors and breakable things, Rhea said, adding that her cat would absolutely scratch or bite the children if they touched them.

"I've told her it's easier for me to visit her, but she says she'll want to get out of the house," Rhea shared. "I've told her she can come over without the kids, and she gets upset that I'm excluding them."

Alicia told her to just block the stairs and put her valuables away, but Rhea said she does not want to. She also does not want her friend's two little boys antagonizing her beloved cat.

No matter what explanation she gave to Alicia, her friend would not understand.

Rhea said her cat is old and does not need that stress. Also, her cat has health issues, and she said that she wants her pet's years to be as happy and easy as possible.

And honestly, Rhea added, when you are child-free and visiting with a parent, the whole visit is just spent having snippets of conversation scattered between them running around after their children.

Rhea said that at Alicia's place, her husband could help give them time to themselves to catch up. For her, friendships with parents of young children are tricky.

However, no matter what explanation she gave to Alicia, her friend would not understand. In fact, Alicia became even more upset with her. Rhea, on the other hand, stood by her decision.
