One fan said that from just one picture, she had already died thousand times over. Crying appeared to be the typical reaction among the diehard fans. Someone else commented:
"The way you knew this would break the internet."
On the hit show "The X-Files," Anderson played Dana Scully, and Duchovny portrayed Fox Mulder. Their investigation of paranormal cases provided the plot of the television series.

"The X-Files" ran from 1993 to 2002. Two spinoff films also starred Anderson and Duchovny in 1998 and 2008. There were two additional seasons of the show from 2016 to 2018.
In the final season of the show, Scully was written off. During an interview in 2018, Anderson, who has also taken to the stage, confirmed that would be the last time fans would see the special agent.
The split was due to the pair's very demanding schedules, a source told PEOPLE.
News broke back in December that Anderson and screenwriter Peter Morgan amicably split after four years together. The two started dating in 2016, but they never shared a living space.
Anderson and Morgan worked together on the recent season of Netflix's "The Crown." The actress was cast in the hit royal family series to portray British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

The split was due to the pair's very demanding schedules; a source told PEOPLE. Anderson's rep declined to address the star's private life, while Morgan's rep also declined to comment.
A few days after the split was confirmed, Anderson shared a sweet photo of herself cuddled close to a dog while sitting on a pink couch. In the caption, she introduced Stella, the dog, to her fans.
In related news, Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni finally reunited when the stars joined forces in a crossover event between "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Law & Order: Organized Crime."
Hargitay plays Olivia Benson, while Meloni plays Elliot Stabler. Fans have been waiting for almost a decade for the reunion. Hargitay and Meloni both shared the special moment on Instagram.
