Сouple Returned Home and Noticed a Sleeping Thief in Their Bed [Story of the Day]
Today’s #storyoftheday is about a couple who came home to find a homeless man sleeping on their bed with a bottle of wine in his hand.
Husband and wife, Nina and Mario, have been without a child for years since tying the knot. They liked living without responsibilities and believed having offspring would change the current fun that they had.
Often, the couple would go on out-of-town trips together for vacation and leave their house unattended. Since the pair lived in a relatively small neighborhood and knew almost everyone, safety was not an issue.

ROAD TRIP
During one long weekend, the couple decided to go on a four-day road trip to the beach. As usual, they left home without thinking about anyone trying to break in. During their vacation, Nina and Mario talked about the possibility of having a child.
It was nothing specific, but they tried to weigh in the pros and cons. After all, they were already in their 30s and have spent several years enjoying each other’s company alone. Nina said:
“I don’t know. I just feel like having a child would make me obsess about his or her safety. It’s a cruel world, you know, and I’ll just end up being too strict.”
They ended their trip with an open discussion and said the perfect time would come when both Nina and Mario were ready for a child, without hesitation. However, things changed after they arrived home.
COMING HOME TO A THIEF
Upon arrival, Nina tried to open the back door of their bungalow, where she usually entered. She noticed that it was locked from the inside and instantly knew something was wrong.
She and her husband then looked through the bedroom window and saw a man sleeping soundly on their bed. “There’s a burglar inside. Call the cops!” Nina told her husband. “Quick before he wakes up.”
As soon as the cops entered the home, the man woke up and looked confused. He had a wine bottle in his hand, which came from the couple’s kitchen countertop, and was wearing Nina’s fur coat.
After a few seconds, the man came to his senses and began apologizing for entering their house. However, the police cut him off and handcuffed him while saying the Miranda Rights.

MARVIN’S STORY
According to the investigation, the man did not attempt to take any belongings from the house. He simply entered, drank wine, wore the coat hanging on the rack, and took a nice nap on the bed.
The man, who introduced himself as Marvin, 48, repeatedly apologized for what he had done. He was also given a chance to explain what he was doing trespassing property. Marvin shared:
“I came here from a different state, mostly by foot, after I was promised a job at a factory. When I got there, they said that the vacancy is no longer available.”
Marvin had nowhere to go and was ultimately depressed, a condition he had for years. He spent the little money he had for a few rounds of beer, thinking it would help make him warm and take his mind off things.

THE COURT’S RULING
He was drunk and homeless at the time he found the house unlocked and stayed inside for warmth since it was freezing outside. He saw the coat inside as well and used it to keep warm while drinking the wine.
While drinking, he laid on the bed and felt happy as he had never slept in such a soft piece of furniture before. Eventually, he fell asleep and woke up to the sound of police officers telling him to stand.
Although Marvin was genuinely sorry about the incident and claimed he had no intention of stealing from the couple, the court ruled him guilty and gave him a two-year sentence behind bars.
