Cleaning your toilet might seem like a standard and pretty easy thing to do, but people make some common mistakes when doing this seemingly simple task, and we’ve covered them below.

One place in your home that would definitely put off visitors if they found it filthy is your toilet. No matter what happens, no one wants to be caught with a dirty toilet; however, cleaning it isn’t a cut and dry process.

People tend to make some mistakes while trying to maintain their toilets, and in the following article, we outline of few of the things to avoid doing while you make sure this area is spick and span.

DON’T RUSH

Very few people enjoy the process of cleaning their homes. Some people actually go as far as hiring cleaning companies to do this dirty job for them, but one thing you need to remember when doing it yourself is not to rush.

The best way to make sure your toilet is as clean as possible is to make sure you leave your disinfectant to kill germs before wiping it away. Just wait a couple of minutes to make sure the cleaner gets worked in.

MIXING CLEANERS

Some people think mixing different cleaners will lead to a cleaner toilet, but it’s advised that you should never do this. It’s possible that the different chemicals from varying detergents could react badly to each other when mixed.

Some also end up losing their properties as their chemicals are nullified. It’s best to use cleaners as per the manufacturer’s instructions and choose the least toxic ones while cleaning your toilet once a week.

NOT WEARING GLOVES

It seems logical that you wouldn’t need to wear cleaning gloves when cleaning a toilet that only you use. However, wearing gloves is meant to protect yourself from germs and the harsh chemicals you use.

Our skins are very permeable, and the properties in cleansers can easily make their way below your skin. Cleansers contain toxic chemicals that could cause some of your major body organs to fail.

CLEAN THE TOILET INSIDE

It’s easy to think cleaning your toilet just means the bowel and seat area, but you also need to tackle the pipes. Every month or two, it’s best to clean the pipes inside to prevent hair, grease, or oil buildup.

Pour one ½ cup of baking soda down the drain, then another ½ cup of white vinegar. The mixture will foam up, and you’ll need to let it sit for a few minutes to dissolve fatty acids, then pour boiling water down the drain.

TAKE CARE OF THE BRUSH

One of the funniest things about cleaning that some people tend to neglect is that you have to clean the tools you use to clean other surfaces! Take the toilet brush, for instance; this tool doesn’t get cleaned properly.

After you’ve used it for scrubbing, it’s normal for people to put it back in its cradle immediately. Avoid doing this because wet and brush will just create a pool of toilet water in the cradle – wash and dry it first.
