A man in North Carolina has been arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend. He strangled her, then tried to get rid of her body in a lake.

According to a statement by the High Point Police Department in North Carolina, 24-year-old Michael Louis Cadogan strangled his 19-year-old girlfriend, Gianna Rose Delgado, to death, following an argument they had on Monday.

Police had received information that Delgado had been assaulted in an apartment they shared with Cadogan and might have died due to the assault. The victim's father, Ricardo Delgado, says that the two shared the apartment lease, even though they had broken up.

The police searched the apartment but found neither Delgado nor Cadogan. After killing his girlfriend, Cadogan allegedly called a female friend and asked her to help with disposing of Delgado's corpse and car.

He told the friend that he wanted to dump the remains in Lake Watauga, in Tennesse. The friend then called the Kingsport Police Department. Her father says Delgado had only been in High Point to make a little extra cash, saying:

"She was only in High Point to work Father's day weekend and was going to be back that Monday."

The friend agreed to meet and help him. What he didn't know, though, was that at the time, she had already alerted the police and was with investigators when she made plans to meet him at a marina in Carter County in Tennessee.

Carter County Sheriff's Office liaised with the Kingsport Police and stopped Cadogan while traveling to the marina. They searched the trunk of Delgado's car and found her body in a large bag.

Neighbors report having heard gunshots go off at around midnight.

Cadogan is facing first-degree murder charges as well as tampering with a corpse and concealment of death. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her funeral arrangements.

Her father remembers his daughter fondly saying that she was very fun-spirited, a go-getter, and always fought for what she wanted. He spoke to Fox8 News, saying:

"She did not deserve to end up this way."

An eerily similar case was reported in Lakeville, Minnesota, where Richfield, 32, is being charged with killing his ex-girlfriend. The incident happened outside a daycare in Lakeville.

Atravius Joseph Weeks allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend Cortney Grace Henry seven times near 203 Street and Icefall Trail. Neighbors report having heard gunshots go off at around midnight.

The police had responded to a 911 call with the caller claiming that Weeks was pounding on her walls and had a gun. She said she believed if he got inside her apartment, she would die.

Weeks is facing murder charges, and bail has been set for 2 million dollars. He appears before the Dakota County Courts on July 1.
