A grandmother stepped up for her grandbaby after her son abandoned both mom and child to feed his reputation as a "ladies man." Her son's furious reaction has left her wondering if she was doing the right thing.

Babies are a blessing, whether or not they were expected. Sadly, some do not think so, going as far as abandoning a child at birth or refusing to take responsibility.

But one grandmother would not have that. Taking to Reddit, the grandmother-of-one recounted how she took up the responsibility of the new mother and child after her son abandoned them.

The story began with the grandma's admission that her 40-year-old son was a typical ladies' man, which she had become used to. However, she had no choice but to step in a year ago when her son impregnated a 20-year-old college student after refusing to use protection.

Upon discovering the pregnancy, the woman's son barred the college undergrad from contacting him, ghosting on her for a month. She eventually reached out to him, letting him know he needed to pay child support even though he decided to abandon his baby.

When her son confided in her about the matter, the poster was shocked by his actions and made it clear to him she had no intention of abandoning her first grandchild.

Hence, she stepped up for the mother-daughter duo after baby Lily was born. The grandmother took on the financial responsibility of both mother and child since the new mom was in college.

She also cared for Lily during her mom's lecture time, and when she couldn't, arranged for a nanny. Although their family was financially buoyant, the uncaring dad highly frowned upon his mom's good deed, insisting Lily and her mom deserved nothing from them.

In his opinion, the 20-year-old should have aborted the child early if she truly needed money. Despite her son's insistence, the grandmother refused to abandon her grandbaby, noting that the child was innocent and did not deserve to suffer for her parent's mistake.

In the end, Lily's dad gave the poster an ultimatum to choose between him or "them." When she refused to choose, her son proceeded to cut ties with her and has since ghosted her.

The grandmother added that her daughter felt she went too far by going against the 40-year-old's decision and refusing to cut ties with her grandchild and the new mom.

Since it was clear her family was not on her side, she turned to Redditors to decide if she was wrong for helping out the young mom with the baby against her son's wishes. Reacting to the post, one Reddit user wrote:

"NTA. But your son is a giant AH. He is entitled and selfish and frankly creepy that at 40, he knocked up a 20-year-old. He needs to grow up."

Other netizens showered the good-hearted grandma with love, commending her for taking the reins when it was most needed. A commenter wrote:

"You're a good person. This poor girl.. He can't even own his mistakes. He quit his job to pay less. That's very low. For his next birthday, you should offer him a vasectomy."

The woman's daughter was not left out of the criticism, as Redditors called her out for being as irresponsible as her brother. Some opined that the entitled behavior of both kids had something to do with the upbringing they received from their parents.

Many advised the poster to disinherit both her kids, as they have proven undeserving. That would perhaps serve as a wake-up call for them to become more responsible.
