SERENA'S HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Born on September 26, 1981, Serena is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, having won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and several Olympic gold medals. She and her sister Venus also won several doubles titles in their careers.
The siblings' venture into becoming world-famous tennis stars was no accident. Their father, Richard, a former sharecropper from Louisiana, was determined to see them succeed.
WORKING HARD FOR THE GOLD
Serena was already receiving two-hour lessons from her father in a court near their Compton, California home at just three years old. Their move to Compton was no accident either.
Richard wanted to show their daughters the possibilities of life should they choose not to work hard and get an education. Ultimately, both Serena and Venus worked hard to achieve their goals and get to where they are today.

AN AMAZING SISTER DUO
Ultimately, the sisters relocated to Florida, where they lived together in a gated Palm Beach community for years. In 2013, however, they went their separate ways after Serena chose to live in a mansion nearby.
While they make a good team, they've also been opponents several times. In 2017, Serena defeated her older sister to claim her 23rd Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open.
GIVING CREDIT TO HER SISTER
Speaking about her win, Serena chose to highlight her sister Venus at the press conference, saying she's the reason she was able to win her 23rd Grand Slam. She said:
"She is my inspiration, she is the only reason I am standing here today and the only reason that the Williams sisters exist."
COMPETING WHILE PREGNANT
Later that year, Serena revealed she was two months pregnant during the game. In September, she gave birth to Alexis Olympia Ohanian and returned to the tennis court two months later to defend her Australian Open title.
While she trained to defend her title, she withdrew from the tournament in early 2018 after realizing she was not ready to compete again after the birth of her daughter. She acknowledged she needed more time.
DEALING WITH POSTPARTUM STRUGGLES
Serena dealt with postpartum struggles and made sure to show a message of support to those who were in similar situations. Ultimately, she thanked everyone who showered her with love and support through those times.
A year after giving birth, she was back in good shape. To mark her return, she was in an advertisement for Chase that had her reciting lines from LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out." It showed her caring for Olympia before training.
WORKING TOWARDS HER 24TH GRAND SLAM
However, during her 2018 US Open final match against Naomi Osaka, she got into a heated argument with the umpire. She was fined $17,000 for the incident.
The succeeding competitions remained challenging for Serena, as she has yet to win her 24th Grand Slam title since her 2017 win. Aside from her tennis career, she is a budding entrepreneur and wife to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
HER PERSONAL LIFE
Serena and her husband got married in a star-studded Disney-themed wedding in New Orleans. Their guests included Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, and Kelly Rowland.
While they're both very busy people, they plan their calendars at the start of each year to ensure no more than a week goes by without spending time together. The approach also helps them to care for their daughter properly.
FINDING SOME HEALTH SCARES
After giving birth to their daughter Olympia, Serena revealed she had significant health complications while giving birth. While undergoing an emergency caesarian section, she experienced shortness of breath.
As doctors were trying to discover the cause, they found blood clots in her lungs. Her doctors also found a large hematoma in her abdomen caused by hemorrhaging at the site of her c-section.
SERENA'S STRUGGLES WHILE RECOVERING
Following multiple surgeries, the tennis champ returned home after a week. However, it was another six weeks until she could get out of bed, so she couldn't take care of Olympia as much as she had wanted.
Admittedly, Serena shared that she felt helpless when it came to taking care of her daughter at the time. It took a toll on her emotions, but she shared at the time that she was still willing to consider having more kids without rushing to it.
OLYMPIA IS GROWING UP SMART
For now, she is simply enjoying the company of her darling daughter, who is growing up to be quite the intelligent little girl. In a recent video, Olympia taught her superstar mom how to play the piano. When she made a mistake, she joked she'd be "fired."
The mother and daughter duo do many activities together, and playing the piano is only one of them. As seen on social media, it's already a given that Serena is teaching Olympia how to play tennis, too.
OLYMPIA THE INTERNET CELEBRITY
Aside from their fun activities, Olympia is also getting the hang of being an internet celebrity. She's often seen wearing matching clothes with her famous mom, modeling brands like Nike and Brunette the Label.
Olympia also has a famous doll named Qai Qai with over 300 thousand followers on Instagram. Like Serena and Olympia, she also has matching outfits, making them an adorable trio.
Recently, Serena celebrated her 40th birthday. Her proud husband made sure to pay tribute to her on social media, calling her "incomparable." He went on to gush about how lucky he is for every minute spent with her.
