Halle Berry has had her fair share of heartbreaks, but one mystery that remains through the years is the ex-boyfriend who damaged her hearing.

Several times in the past, Halle Berry has spoken out about the abuses she experienced at the hands of her ex-boyfriends. One particular relationship got so bad that the man she refused to name made her lose 80% of her hearing.

The "Catwoman" actress is an advocate for raising awareness against domestic violence, and for a good reason. She's had several experiences in her life that had hurt her badly, all beginning when she watched her mother suffer abuse from her father.

BREAKING THE CYCLE

At the Mayors Fund Benefit in New York City back in 2011, Berry opened up about choosing to date men who were just like her dad. When she lost 80% of her hearing due to an ex-boyfriend, she decided to break the cycle.

Williams claims that the person who busted Berry's eardrum was actually Wesley Snipes.

LONGSTANDING TRAUMA

During her speech, the actress admitted that her mom's self-esteem rubbed off on her because she watched her mom get hurt. She reportedly explained:

"It was only when I was in an abusive relationship and blood squirted on the ceiling of my apartment and I lost 80% of my hearing in my ear that I realized, I have to break the cycle."

STANDING UP FOR HERSELF

The same way she finally decided to stand up for herself, she hopes other women will do the same. In all of her relationships, she makes sure that violence is something she will not tolerate at all.

After Berry's revelation, people started digging about who the mystery boyfriend was. Several of her boyfriends have spoken out about it in hopes of clearing their names.

CLEARING THEIR NAMES

R&B singer Christopher Williams who was linked to the actress in the early 1990s, set the record straight after people assumed he was the one that hit her, which made her lose most of her hearing in her right ear.

After several false articles about him, Williams claims that the person who busted Berry's eardrum was Wesley Snipes. At the time, Snipes' representatives never returned any calls about the incident.

HEARTBREAK AFTER HEARTBREAK

Snipes and the actress' relationship happened in 1991, which people claimed had her crying all the time. Her unhappy relationship took an even more violent turn when a boyfriend she refused to name struck her that her eardrum was punctured.

It would take a couple more years until Berry experienced another heartbreak: divorcing from Atlanta Braves star David Justice. At the time, Berry claims she struggled to understand why they were divorcing.

HER FIRST DIVORCE

However, for Justice, he believed it was a long time coming. He even shared that both he and Berry knew and felt the seriousness of their problems. During their vacation in Bermuda celebrating their anniversary, he admitted that their marriage was a mistake.

According to Justice, both of them were unhappy, and he felt as if he was walking on eggshells around her, as everything he did was wrong in her eyes.

GROWING SUSPICIOUS

Due to her trauma from past relationships, she was extra suspicious of the athlete. He said:

“She’d get mad when I watched ESPN. And every time she saw a picture of me with a woman, any woman who might have been standing by my side, she thought I was cheating."

MOVING ON FROM JUSTICE

According to Justice, he did not know a girl who could throw a tantrum as Berry did. Despite the pain, Berry was okay for as long as it taught her something.

Despite her troublesome relationships at the time, Berry's career was thriving. The Oscar winner wrapped up production after production, starring in high-profile hits like "Catwoman" and "Nappily Ever After."

SPEAKING OUT FOR THE KIDS

In 2015, years after they ended their relationship, Justice spoke out about the abuse claims brought about by Berry's camp. He created a now-deleted Twitter thread defending himself from accusations that he cheated and abused the actress.

Justice's reason for finally speaking up after all these years is because of his three young children, two boys and a girl. Given that they can now read what's on the internet, and so can their friends, he wanted to set the record straight: "I never hit Halle Berry."

JUSTICE CLEARS HIS NAME

Although Berry never said that he hit her, she never said he didn't either. He thought that was not very reassuring, especially since he was raised by a single mother whom he loves and respects.

The athlete claims he would never hit a woman because of this, and the reason he was speaking out was for his wife, his children, and the rest of his family, friends, and fans. He wanted them to know the truth.

THROWING SHADE AT BERRY

In his now-deleted rant session, he patterned what Williams' had previously said about Wesley Snipes hitting her. Although he did not name him, he wrote the initials "WS," saying Berry had previously disclosed this to him.

Before ending the rant, Justice went on to say that all of Berry's exes are all her "knight in shining armor" until their relationship ends. He went on to warn her ex-husband Olivier Martinez about what was coming for him after their separation.

BERRY'S OTHER EX-HUSBAND

After the Twitter spree, Berry's ex-husband Eric Benet who was married to her from 2001 to 2005, tweeted him back, saying: "My man [David Justice] is tweeting some truth dis' mornin'!"

Benet is the same man whom Berry stuck by after he admitted to cheating on her ten times. He also took a 12-step program to cure him of sex addiction in a rehabilitation clinic.

Despite all that she's gone through, Berry recently gave love another chance through Van Hunt. They went Instagram official in September 2020, and he's since been a regular on the "Monsters' Ball" actress' feed.

While she's proud to show her relationship with Hunt, she's fiercely protective of her two children, Nahla Ariela Aubry and Maceo Robert Martinez. The pair are rarely seen on social media, and their faces are often covered on rare occasions that she posts about them.
