Dad Is Having Dinner with Son When Doorbell Rings, He Opens the Door and Sees His Ex-wife — Story of the Day
One afternoon, Norman was having lunch with his son when his ex-wife Myra paid them a visit. Norman was shocked when she told them the reason for her visit after so many years.
Norman and Myra had been married for seven years and had a six-year-old son named Oliver when Myra got a job in Huston, Texas. She had to leave her husband and son and relocate alone because Norman was working for a software company in New York.
"I'll be back home soon, honey," Myra told little Oliver before leaving. "And I will video call you often. Be a good boy to daddy, okay?"

"But mom!" Oliver cried. "Why can't I come with you?"
"Because mom has to go to work, honey, and she can't take you with her. Please be a good boy," Myra said as she walked into the airport, leaving her husband and son behind.
Oliver was devastated when Myra refused to let him accompany her. Despite Norman's explanation that she'd come to see him on weekends, Oliver was still upset. He only let go of his rage when Myra called him after she'd arrived in Texas, and he made her promise to come to see him soon. But that never happened.
Over time, Myra stopped taking any calls from Norman or Oliver. Initially, when Norman called her, she'd say she was busy with work and would respond soon, leaving a text message, but even that stopped after a while. One day on a call, Norman told her that Oliver was sick and really missed her, but Myra was hardly bothered.
"Then take him to a doctor, Norman. What am I supposed to do? I've got a busy life here. You can't keep complaining to me about everything!"
"Really, Myra?! Is that all you've got to say?" Norman was furious. "Your son is sick and misses his mother! The least you can do is call and comfort him!"

"Okay, Norman, look, I know it's all hard being a single dad and everything, but I really don't have time. I'm going to a meeting now. I'll try to call you this weekend," Myra said then hung up.
Like a responsible father, Norman looked after Oliver and performed the duties of both a mother and father. He took him to school every morning, then when he came home from work, he would do the household chores then spend time with his son. On weekends, he took Oliver on excursions and to museums, and they loved each other's company.
Almost a month went by like that. Myra stopped contacting them completely and never came to see them. Suspicious that his wife was hiding something from him and it wasn't just work that kept her busy all the time, one day Norman flew to New York. Unfortunately, his suspicions were confirmed. He saw Myra and a man holding hands and kissing passionately outside her office.
Norman confronted her right there and announced that he'd be sending their divorce papers soon. But Myra didn't budge at all; she was relieved to be free of their relationship and of the constant nagging about caring for their child.
When the couple's divorce was finalized months later, Norman didn't keep the truth from Oliver and told him everything.
To his surprise, Oliver was not sad; instead, he told his father that he was content with him and didn't need anyone else. "It's okay, dad. If mom doesn't care about us. We have each other, and we can be happy," he said.

Norman couldn't stop crying when he heard the 6-year-old boy talk like that. Myra, what have you done? We had such a lovely family! You've ruined everything for all of us!
Five years later, Norman and Oliver were seated at the table for dinner when they suddenly heard the doorbell. Oliver ran to the door in excitement, thinking it was the delivery guy who'd brought the stuff he'd been waiting for. But when he opened the door, he was shocked to see his mother standing there. "Hi, honey. Is daddy there? I want to talk to him," she said with a smile.
"No, he's not home!" Oliver said, glaring at her. "And even if he were, I wouldn't call him."
"What's taking so long, Oliver? Who's there?" Norman asked, approaching the door, then shocked to see his ex-wife standing at the doorstep. "Myra? What the hell are you doing here?"
"You didn't even teach our son manners, Norman? He just lied to me and told me you weren't home."
Norman laughed sarcastically. "Look who's talking! Only now, after all these years, you had the sudden realization that Oliver is your son too?! Weren't you the one who said you didn't want Oliver to stay with you? Then why are you suddenly worried about him? I'm warning you, get lost, or I'll call the cops!"

"And I would do the same if you don't obey court orders, Norman," Olivia said as she handed him a document. "I've filed for Oliver's sole custody, so see you in court and let's see who wins."
"Is this some kind of joke to you, Myra? What the hell are you even trying to prove by filing for custody now?"
"Well, honey. I get what I want. So see you in court!" she warned and walked away. That night, Norman couldn't sleep a wink. He knew he had a good chance of winning the case, but he was terrified of what would happen if Myra won.
A week later, during the trial, after hearing from both parties, the judge decided that Oliver would have to spend some time with his mother before arriving at a final decision. Oliver was hesitant to stay with the woman who had never cared for him, but Norman assured him that he would be fine, and Oliver agreed.
However, the whole time Oliver was with Myra, Norman was constantly worried about him. He was seriously hoping the court would decide in his favor.

The day the judgment was to be announced, Norman was really anxious. What if Myra wins custody? Oliver said he didn't mind staying with her. Oh, Lord, please help me!
But the moment the judge made the final decision, he sprung in delight! The court's case record over the allotted period revealed that Oliver was happier with his father, noting that he had been the primary caregiver for most of his life and was more involved with him. As a result, Norman was granted custody of Oliver.
Later, he discovered that Myra had applied for custody because she couldn't conceive with her husband. And since she didn't want to adopt a child, fighting for Oliver was her only option.
Myra was enraged when she saw Norman and Oliver walking away happily, hand in hand, outside the court, but Norman didn't care. He gave her a stern look and walked away with his son.
What can we learn from this story?
- Some people don't deserve to become parents. Myra never cared for her son and was a terrible mother.
- You can't avoid karma. Myra abandoned her family for another man, and karma punished her by robbing her of the ability to start a new one.
