Stranger Approaches Young Orphan Claiming He is His Uncle and Demands a DNA Test

A stranger approached an orphaned young man with $500,000 worth of fortune and claimed he was his estranged uncle he never met, then demanded a DNA test.

After losing his parents at 13, Redditor Appropriate_Rock3187 was raised by his paternal grandparents. He was their only grandchild and eventually inherited their property. For years, the Original Poster (OP) lived under the impression that he was their sole heir.

Apart from his grandparents, the only other person he knew well in the family was his aunt, 43. He and his aunt split the savings equally and assumed they had a good head start for their future.

One day, a stranger approached the OP claiming he was his estranged uncle. He didn’t know who this guy was and decided not to believe him. The OP explained:

“I was approached by a man (38m), “John,” claiming to be my grandfather’s son and would like a DNA test to verify it. I was shocked and didn’t believe him.”

The OP was enraged because the man’s claims indicated that his grandfather cheated on his grandmother. Moreover, John contacted the OP’s aunt earlier, and she was quick in recognizing him.

The aunt told her nephew that his grandparents knew John’s parents well but the family later moved away following a domestic fight. He added:

“John stated that his mom had an affair with my grandfather, and when the husband found out, he divorced his mom, and they were forced to sell the house.”

John’s father doubted his paternity after the affair came to light and eventually abandoned him. By now, the OP grew suspicious and wanted to know how sure John was that his mom’s ex wasn’t his biological father.

John revealed he tracked down his mom’s ex, and a DNA test revealed that he wasn’t his birth father. He talked to his mother about it, and that’s when she confessed. The OP said:

“John’s mom confessed that the only other possible candidate was my grandfather…So John has been asking me to do a DNA test so that he can finally know for sure who his father is.”

The OP almost agreed but decided not to take the test after his girlfriend warned him of the repercussions. She cautioned him that if John were proven his grandfather’s son, he would come for the share of the estate.

Thus, he told John he would agree to take the test only if he signed away any rights or claims to the property if proven he was his grandpa’s estranged son.

Some people said the OP could’ve almost taken the test had it not been for his girlfriend’s timely warning.

The OP didn’t hear back from him until a few days later, when he got a call from a woman who said she was John’s wife. She lashed out at him and called him selfish for trying to sign her husband off his legal rights on the property, claiming his grandfather owed it to John.

The OP hung up on her and reached out to his lawyer before John could produce any evidence. He decided John shouldn't be entitled to a share of his grandparent's propertty since they never mentioned anything about a likely estranged son.

Still, he turned to social media seeking guidance. After reading his post, several users applauded his girlfriend and offered their suggestions. User hello_friendss said:

In the end, the OP claimed that since his grandparents were cremated, John wouldn’t stand a chance to prove his paternity. That said, he felt relieved not having to give up his inheritance to him.
