Mothers are often hailed for knowing what's best for their children. Amazingly enough, a mother displayed a real-life example of this famous saying by taking corrective action at just the right instant to save her baby boy's life.

Kate and David Ogg from Queensland, Australia, had been trying to get pregnant for three years. In 2010, they received the news that they would soon be parents to twins—a boy and a girl.

An Unexpected Turn

The Oggs were overjoyed and couldn't wait to embrace parenthood. Things took an unexpected turn when Kate was rushed to the hospital six months into the pregnancy. It was a case of premature births.

On March 25, 2010, the Oggs welcomed their son Jamie, and his sister Emily followed two minutes later. The twins were born in their amniotic sac, but Jamie made no noise while Emily let out a huge cry.

What would have been a moment of celebration for Kate and David was completely different. The couple could tell things weren't right with their baby boy, given the vibe in the room.

The Heartbreaking News

As it turned out, the baby wasn't breathing and had no heartbeat. For 20 minutes, the doctors kept trying to resuscitate him. The doctor then came, sat on Kate's hospital bed, and asked if she and her husband had decided a name for their baby.

Soon afterward, something strange happened that startled the Oggs.

It seemed the doctor had something to share with the couple. He then informed them that the medical staff had failed to save their son's life despite all efforts. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle for the Oggs and the hospital staff.

What a Miracle

Kate and David told the medical staff they wished to hold their baby so they could come to terms with his death. While reflecting on the heart-wrenching experience, Kate expressed:

"I wanted to meet him and to hold him and for him to know us. If he was on his way out of the world, we wanted for him to know who his parents were and to know that we loved him before he died."

The first-time mom then turned to her husband, asking him to remove his shirt and climb into the bed so they could cuddle their son together. Kate unwrapped Jamie and placed him across her bare chest, with David joining in to warmly embrace him.

Soon afterward, something strange happened that startled the Oggs. Jamie gasped and slowly opened his eyes. He then began grabbing his father's fingers. The couple couldn't believe what had just taken place. Kate recounted:

"We were trying to entice him to stay. We explained his name and that he had a twin that he had to look out for and how hard we tried to have him."

The Oggs then called the doctors, who initially refused to return and told the couple what they were experiencing was just a reflex from the baby. The first-time parents shared that he wouldn't be alive if they had let the doctors take Jamie.

Kangaroo Care

Interestingly, Kate had practiced what Australians call "kangaroo care" with Little Jamie. Thanks to the skin-to-skin contact, Kate made her baby feel warm, which helped revive his heartbeat.

Little Jamie is grown up now and suffers from no serious medical issues despite being at risk of developing cerebral palsy because of his harrowing birth experience. The Oggs have also shared the miraculous birth story with Jamie and Emily.

Emily and Jamie also have a baby brother, Charlie, who loves telling people that his older siblings were born skinny and that Jamie was dead at first but is now alive.

Jamie's Gift

Following their harrowing experience, Kate and David decided to use their moving story to help other parents and families going through similar circumstances. They created an online community called "Jamie's Gift," dedicated to helping raise funds for the Miracle Babies Foundation—an organization dedicated to supporting premature and sick newborns.

The Oggs survived the worst because they chose to act upon their parental instincts, which helped them experience a sweet and heartwarming miracle. Their love and affection for their baby boy made them stay strong and resilient in adversity.

The Twins Continue to Thrive

As of 2023, Jamie and Emily are 13 years old and look healthy and happy in the photos their mom has shared on her Facebook profile. Alongside their younger brother Charlie, they're doting older siblings to a little sister, whom their parents welcomed in late 2017.
