In the "Red Table Talk" interview with Jada Pinkett-Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Bullock stated that she wished to have the same skin color as her adopted children. She said to the show hosts:

"To say that I wished our skins matched... sometimes I do."

Bullock cut in and replied to Willow that she hopes that people judging based on color will not happen. She also wished that the people would "see with different eyes."

In 2015, Bullock revealed to Glamour Magazine feeling anxious about Louis's future because of racism. According to the actress, she wanted her son to feel safe; and not be judged for the man he would become, regardless of his skin color.

The "Hope Floats" actress made a rare public appearance with Laila on "Red Table Talk" for a Mother's Day special, where she described her adoptive daughter as a superhero that would save her family.

Jesse had an alleged affair with tattoo model Michelle McGee which hit the tabloids. He apologized for the incident, but Bullock announced that she would retain sole custody of Louis.
